These phones are somehow tied to T-Mobile, right? They're not as "free" as the ones sold through the Play store? Thanks.

I'm a smartphone amateur and do not have a smartphone, so I apologize for this question.

there have been two recent stories on Nexus production and one is that LG saying there is no production problem and the 2nd saying that Google didn't order enough to meet demand and that demand should be met around mid/late February. They already ramped up production further but that takes about 6 weeks to see the results.

Oh, that I do understand, fortunately!

I know my question wasn't very clear, mainly because I'm not sure about the actual terms. Let me try again. Are phones purchased through T-Mobile any different than those purchased through the Google Play store? I'm not wondering about the price differences, but about the actual physical phones.

If they really want to push this new subsidy-free value plan + monthly handset payment system, they should reserve these ultra-popular phones for people who want one under those terms.

Also, I thumbed-down the thread, just for fun!

Even if T-Mobile offered this phone for free, it'd still be a ripoff for many people, only because it's offered with classic plan. I don't know about individual plans, but family classic unlimited is $20 more + 2x for the internet... per month... Multiply that by 24 months. However, getting it for free and canceling with $200+tax ETF is a good deal, as long as T-Mobile doesn't blacklist the phone (which they shouldn't, but who knows..)

Also, unless you need a new phone right now, I'd wait.
While hspa may not be bad in some places, it's only 6-7mb for me, so I'm waiting for lte... and by the time lte is rolled out we may have more choices and lower prices.

Not showing up for existing customers with upgrade avail... Totally gone from the list! Too bad...
