I missed out on hostlatte last week, but I am kind of glad... I ended up going with webhostinghub for $10 for a year, after I cx'd my hostgator (was ~$25/yr). So far I am loving webhostinghub, experimenting with everything they have to offer through softaculous . The last time I made a website was around ~2000 when I was in HS messing around with dhtml. Things are so much easier these days =P, messing around with concrete5 for giggles and making pages has come a long way!

It turned out that I've tried logging in via SSH and it failed 5 times and my account was locked so I opened a ticket and they said I need to pay $3 extra (per month) for SSH so I'm cancelling my account. Their page said SSH is one of the features but I didn't know you have to pay for that.

I only had to pay a $3 setup fee (one time) to enable it, maybe you are reading things wrong.

I believe they also state it in the knowledge some where on how to enable SSH access.

There's nothing that bashes your deal, just that unlimited is an advertising tactic that is used my unscrupulous web hosts to attract users. Obviously, they do not have unlimited resources that they can provide you for $2 a month. They should be more clear about actual limits.

Hostgator, never used them. They might have good support, I do not argue with that, just the unlimited aspect.

An experienced internet user won't. But imagine if a am a N00B who posts his entire family album or product catalog (or say I shoot videos and gasp... put them on their server). They would very likely close the account or ask me for upgrade.

My point is why say unlimited when there is nothing unlimited about the deal. There are these hidden limits beyond which they cannot (afford to) provide service to you.

videos will not work on shared hosting!,you want to upgrade to dedicate,but of course this will
cost you more money.

I agree with you, I really want to see someone try to open a youtube on a shared hosting account. That would be funny.

well it may work,only if you links will link directly to youtube or other sites,as if you have a video file linked directly to your ftp or your website then this will not work,plus ,a lot of the shared web hosts they disable some of the server codecs to prevent overloading...their server ,and producing low quality hosting for other people on that server.

if you want to link to your own video files,to play them for start there are hosts that can give you a vps witch is cheaper than dedicate server and will still play your stream videos,but if you start to get a lot of traffic then you need to move fast on a dedicate ,as people come to your website and if the videos will not load as result of high traffic i assure you that those people will never comeback to your website,and then you loose a lot of income.

what would be a better alternative host? after reading everyones post, i'm kind of skeptical about getting hosting from hostlatte and thinking about canceling.

There's nothing to be skeptical about Hostlatte, I had no issues with them. People are just hating for the unlimited disk space, unlimited bandwidth, and paying the $3 setup fee for SSH access which clearly states under the Addons section. As for issues being blocked, lots of people don't read the message to email support to get their IPs unblocked (due to failure to enter their passwords correctly).

If you don't like it they offer an anytime money back guarantee, but I really don't think you will need it after talking to their support team. I know there are other slickdeals members who purchased this deal and had great experience with them, I wonder where they are at? Seem like only the bad eggs like to respond.

I thought I'd drop a positive comment to balance the books a little...
I went with the three year service for 42.48 and received a free domain registration for one year. I locked myself out after too many failed log-in attempts. I emailed support and Sean gave a friendly response three minutes later letting me know he had unblocked me.
First day in, I'm not worried about service with them at all...

Every host has their certain limits, trust me!! Those "Terms of Service(TOS)" that we all are guilty of just clicking and agreeing to with out reading, yeah they are there for a reason.

I don't like reading 2 hours worth of BS, but somewhere on there it says what (for example) "Unlimited" really means.

I own a hosting company, I don't specialize in small websites though, I don't even advertise my hosting services to the public. I only host (we'll call it) "special" websites.

Just take my word for it, that "Unlimited' isn't "Unlimited".

Lets just say, what if Facebook had joined John Doe's "unlimited" hosting for $3.00 a month. Yeah...Think John would still be in business trying to host FB??

Now these guys probably will take care of your needs, by all means. Be realistic though... if you are going to try and host some BS site that collects a bunch of nude pics from twitter, or BS hacks, or BS that has been pirated which in turn brings in overwhelming traffic...then they will I'm sure suspend you in a heart beat. I would...

You're right and they are willing to waive that so this could be a keeper.

so is the "unlimited" aspect for the entire duration of your purchase or for only a short time? does this mean all three hosting options offer the same features aside from the number of domains allowed?
