I have both the Marmot sharp point and NF Bionic jacket, and I do think the Sharp point is a nicer jacket, warmer, more water resistant and much more wind resistant. But it should be, it MSRPs for about $100 more. Sierra trading post currently has the Sharp point at 192, even with 35% off, that's about 50 more than the Bionic. A Marmot jacket on sale for 70 will not be much better than a NF Bionic.
I have the Sharp Point too, and its my go-to jacket for pretty much anything. Best, most versatile jacket I ever bought.
And yes, people like to rag on TNF for being trendy, but they make some great gear, especially their Summit Series. If I needed it I'd be all over this Apex Bionic deal. It makes for a great hiking/outdoors jacket, and it light enough to be worn as a daily beater that'll last you forever.
i bought one of the north face chromium jackets for $115 w tax. maybe not as slick, but a decent deal for someone who has been on the market for a while.
has a super soft nice fleece lining inside, doesn't stick to your clothes/sweater. hopefully its nice. good reviews. slim fitting.
That's only partially true. The $300 dress shoe doesn't last 10 years by itself. You have to care for the shoe with periodic upkeep (polishing and waxing). Also it's the uppers that will last 10+ years with upkeep, the soles won't. You will have to re-sole the shoe every couple of years and that cost 80 plus. If you take these things into account, you might not be saving much on a time and cost basis.... but you are wearing a much nicer shoe.
yep, even it's a wash money-wise, you're wearing a much nicer shoe the whole time, but you're also saving time not having to look for a new shoe every couple years, break them in, and so on.
all this cheapness on the part of people trying to save a couple cents, in my, opinion, usually doesn't save any money in the long run, but there's no doubt it wastes a whole bunch of the limited amount of time we have in our lives
Besides, isn't TNF so, like, 2008? If you must wear what everyone else is wearing then, uh, move on people. This thread is hilarious. All the little North Face bots.
you're defining yourself by what you wear just as much as these supposed "bots", when you think that NOT wearing TNF makes you somehow better or more down-to-earth, or whatever you think is so great about yourself.
just buy well-made stuff that you need to allow you to do the things you want to do in life, and then move on to the actual living your life part. worrying about accidentally having a jacket other people have is a waste of time, and shows you care about appearances as much as someone who buys it only because it's TNF.
