Sales tax consists of state/county/city taxes, if I'm not mistaken? My local sales tax in the city I live in is 10% because our former mayor screwed us up before quitting.

I lived in Florida for quite a while, if I remember right you guys have the lottery keeping taxes lower, right?

I never understood why a season of a show has to be so significantly more expensive than a movie.

Is it because it's simply more hours of footage?

I'm going to guess 10-15-20 hours of material warrants more than 2 hours. Plus many of these new TV produced shows have higher production values (and costs) than many of the theater released movies. Budgets of Multimillion per episode are starting to become common. Typical numbers thrown around for GOT are $5-6 million per episode without having the direct box office receipts to offset the costs -- HBO is a costly per month subscription service, but that includes a lot more than a single produced show.

Master the Audio/Video for that many hours of material is a significant expense and while the actual disc/production costs are pretty minor these days, certainly the perceived value of 4-5-6 disc seasons is going to be higher than a 1-2 disc Movie Release.

At ~10hrs/season/book, there's no way the show could fully capture the vastness Martin's story, nor all its details.

That said, I love the show and think it represents the books as well as it could with its inherent limitations. Also, I cannot wait for Season 3 to begin! The third book is so full of epic events, the first two books are nothing but preludes in comparison. Swords is unquestionably the best book in the series IMO.

will wait for the bluray 8K version coming in 2-3 years. By then it will be season 5 or 6 and likely the complete box set in 8K.

FYE's search engine is crap. You either go through the top five pages of best sellers in a category or go through them in alphabetical order. No sorting by price that I could find (other than right after clicking used, then it just showed $8 CDs as the cheapest they had).

For those looking for filler. Blu-ray copy of American Psycho is cheap (just under $4 before 20% off coupon) and so is the DVD for Signs ($3 before 20% off). Other cheap ones I saw were Master & Commander, Superbad, I Am Legend, and Blow. I've wanted Drive for a while so I was willing to spring $6.40 for it.

It's what the market will bear. Look, these folks are pre-ordering for a show I'm pretty sure they've already watched. Also, it's 7 discs. That's a lot of content.
