warranty for refrigerator

whats up fellow slickdealers, so I recently bought a fridge. But was looking to get a warranty for my prized posses ion. Now when I made the purchase I did not use my or had a discover card at the time.. so now I recently got approved for a discover card, so im still within 30 days of purchase of the refrigerator, but was looking for something slick out there to cover the fridge in terms of warranty. Anyone out there have any tips or tricks for getting a discount..

ive heard rumors like costco warranty but ive searched for 5 hours changing keywords and cant find the @#$%^&*() thread that people said yea yeah costco yeah.. so any help is much appreciated. reps will be given.

The reason you had trouble finding information on Costco's appliance warranty is because they don't have one. What you might be thinking of is Costco's refund policy.

As far as an extended warranty on you refrigerator, don't buy one. Extended warranties for appliances, just like for electronics, are a waste of money. Time and time again, Consumer Reports has run the numbers on these things and still says they're a waste of money and a hassle to deal with. Save your money. Instead, use a credit card that doubles the manufacturer's warranty to buy the refrigerator with.

Also, check Consumer Reports to see which refrigerators they rate highly and which ones have a good history of reliability.

welli bought the lg blast chiller for 2400 out the door.. has a 10 year on the compressor and a 1 year mfg warranty if it dies on year 2 then im royally fuct. someone i know bought a fridge 5 years ago and it just gave out and it was new from circuit city when they was closing up shop

Anyways... as Brian1 pointed out... extended warranties are a joke on appliances. I've stuck with Kenmore (Whirlpool/Maytag/Amana - all the same company) and never had an issue. All my refrigerators have lasted at least 10 years before the compressor goes out...and at that point, it's almost more cost effective to just buy a new refrigerator.

For the record, I think my side-by-side refrigerator was around $400 or $500 (originally ~$1000) when I bought it (25.1 cu ft. Kenmore Side-By-Side).

LG is a pretty trusted company though... so I can't imagine you would have too many issues. Kenmore even uses them to make their "Elite" models of some refrigerators and washer/dryer combos.

Don't buy the warranty!!!

Like others have pointed out you do not come out ahead in the long run. Think about it.... if every time you were offered to buy a warranty you put that amount of money is a savings account and saved it for when your items break you'd have more than enough money to fix/replace your items.

Keep in mind this is all the warranty companies are doing except on a large scale. They're making money doing it, meaning you're losing money.

I wouldnt buy any warranties if the price of item under 1k for appliances. But for 2k+ I wouldn't gamble and I would buy a warranty from squaretrade. retail store prices will probably be 2x more expensive then squaretrade.

Also... If you bought your appliance with a creditcard that gives you an extra year warranty that would be the way I would buy it and you would have at least 2 years total coverage for free.

For fridges, the stupid ice makers break all the time. Which is annoying.

next time you need a big tic applience...folks go to Sears Outlet .(one in Fremont or Oak Ca.if local) bought a refidge ding on side that faces my storage...washer and dryer had dings on left and right side..together you see nothing ...pencils out to getting refridg free!....stock change all the time

I agree that warranties on appliances are a waste of money.

Unless it needs a defrost timer or something small like that, a refrigerator is a disposable item theses days.

yeah im looking for any promo codes couldnt find any. and even on their fb theres no codes. just for cells which expired hours after they announced it. but yeah im willing to pay 289 for 5 years

That's a good question since a lot of the parts can be proprietary and therefore unnecessarily expensive, plus since most broken refrigerators are tossed, finding a decent refrigerator mechanic (if you can't fix it yourself) might be a problem.

Just bought NIB washer & dryer from the local Sears Outlet. Great price on the pair but I used my Amex so I am covered for 2 years. The price they wanted for an extended warrantee was ridiculous. Something like $700 for 5 years on both. I can get a 5 year from SquareTrade for about $150 on the washer alone. I have 30 days to decided but that sounds like cheap insurance not to have to shell out another $1000 for a washing machine if it goes kaputz after year 2.

alright so maybe im doing something terribly wrong when i do the quote deal on squaretrade the fridge comes up as $380 the best im able to do with a coupon is drive it down to $340 for 5 years how did you get $289?.

There are some uses for warranties. My mom bought a new he washer and dryer combo (lg i believe). This was a couple of years ago and she spent almost 2500 for the set, including a 3 year warranty.

THREE seperate times the "brain" went out on her machine and they brought in repair men to fix and replace it. Would have cost her more than to replace them.

Sometimes on higher end purchases a warranty makes sense.
