I know what you mean. I ended up buying the A37 with the 18-135 for 529 before Christmas and sold the A37 body for 400.00. That way the 18-135 did not cost that much.

Pretty nice price, it was cheaper late last year (I think $750, check camelcamelcamel). That combo was said to be discontinued, but I have seen it at SonyStore for $999, so maybe only partially true. That lens is $500 by itself, so anything to make it cheaper is great. The reviews on it are good, including sharpness at full tele and quietness of motor (for video). Good luck.
