[SOLVED] I cannot install the coupons.com printer despite being Admin (on Win8)

LoveBunny 3,683 4,959 January 19, 2013 at 06:03 PM More Coupons.com Deals
Hi all,

I was trying to install the coupons.com coupon printer on my new computer. Despite being the Administrator, I cannot install it. I get "You must be an administrator to install the Coupon Printer."

I have then gone into the downloads folder and did the right click to run as admin. That didn't work.

I moved the installer file into the desktop, right clicked to open properties, and in the"compatibility" section, I clicked the "run this program as administrator" box, clicked apply and tried to install it again. No luck.

Losing my mind. Any SDers have any clue as to what I could do?Embarrassment

im sure many others have contacted them. if you get a response it will just be a canned quote saying they are working on it.

Very true. Fudge buckets... this sucks. I'm still going to contact them and hopefully get an answer as to when they'll have it working.

Thanks for your input.

I've had this happen with printer software on Windows 7. Are you logged in as THE Administrator? Or is your account in the Administrators group? If it's just in the group, log in as the local Administrator and run it from that account.

there used to be an option to have them send you the coupons you wanted, dont know if that is still an option though.

I am THE Administrator. I ended up enabling Safe Mode on my computer and was successful installing.

I realize it isn't recommended to install programs that way, but I was at my wit's end. I trust the printer and have used it for years I now have the coupon printer up and running. So far, my computer is acting normally. woot

can any of the windows gurus offer any suggestions as to why the fix worked or do we put it down to a win8 quirk?

in safe mode it is running the bare essentials, without all the hooks in place so it let the program install.

I posted my issue on Coupons.com's Facebook page and someone there said they are running WIn8 and and installed the printer no problem. I don't know how widespread the issue I had is.

I wish I knew if I was doing something wrong with my computer. But I went through steps to ensure that I was the admin and still had problems.

I hate solving things like this. I end up fixing it, but don't know why it was happening in the first place. BLAH!

yeah... that makes sense. But what would stop an admin from installing software outside of safe mode?

Maybe it's OCD kicking in, but I hate seeing stuff fixed without knowing the root cause. Now there will be people thinking you have to go into safe mode to install software all the time and we don't know if it's Win8 problem or a coupons.com software problem

It sounds like it had some sort of compatibility issue with another driver installed on the computer. Safe mode doesn't load those drivers. So, it installed.
