video card advice! (285 gtx upgrade)
Hey guys, have had my 285 GTX since late 2009 and it has been an awesome card for me. I mainly play mmos pretty casually. I'm starting to think that the card may eventually go just due to the fact that I have used it for over three years now. I built a new rig in the beginning of 2012 and kept the 285.I'd like to maybe upgrade to something more future proof with direct x 11. I built my rig but I am not an expert in the video card category and don't want to make a lateral upgrade (been reading that the 7750 or anything 650 or less isn't really an upgrade). What would you suggest? I'm open to any advice and I am certainly on a budget. I have a great eBay account and know that I can sell my 285 for a decent amount. Thanks!! edit: what I'm thinking is possibly getting a 7700? |

That site provides a generalized hierarchy of video card performance. It is not conclusive, but does serve as a decent guide on what to expect on terms of performance of some cards compared to another. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/GPU12/372 This site allows you to compare actual performance figures of different video cards with popular games. Based on the first link, a 7770 is not that much better than your current video card. The front page deal of the GTX 560 Ti does look good to me though. It may not offer you a substantial increase in noticeable gaming performance but it will outperform your current card. |
