Seems like a good deal but haven't followed HDs in a while

1-year warranty seems risky. The cheapest drives from WD, Seagate, Hitachi appear to all have at least 2-years.

TD shows 1-year warranty while MC shows 2-year. And really, I've rarely seen 1-year warranties on HDDs except on refurbs.

yep, some are 1 year. The last couple 1tb barracuda retail boxed drives I got were only 1 year. Not sure it that has changed, but it was a couple months ago. They used to be 5 year a year ago! Now, the same drive oem style from say ncix, which has the 1tb barracuda for 64.99 most of the time shipped, or free shipping after 100bucks, those are 2 year, so you have to watch out. I would think these are 2 year, but wouldn't know until I got them from TD. That being said, I felt the last 2 of these I got were a little on the loud side compared to my other drives. Not insane, but I think I will pass due to that. For those who don't care, not a bad deal. I feel 1tb drives are decently priced at 60, and a great at 50, which happened in november for a little bit.

That makes me feel a little suspicious. Makes me think these have lower quality platters or something.
I'd rather put in some extra dollars for a drive with a longer warranty, where the mfgr at least seems to have some confidence that their drives will last.

Maybe give TD a call and verify?

FYI these are confirmed to be rebadged Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.D models. Newegg has just as many 1 star reviews as 5 star ones. I was about to pull the trigger until I did some googling and research. Good thing I did. The Hitachi 7K1000.C have a better failure rate, but not by much. I missed the Samsung/Seagate Spinpoints for $60 at Newegg too, so I guess I'll wait for the next HD deal..
