Hmm the gizmodo link makes me nervous about this one. I bought one today and they offered a 2year warranty with it. The lady said if it breaks or any accidental damage occurs I will get credit for what I paid for the device, I don't even need to send it in (since barnes and noble will no longer support these). Anyone use their warranty program before?

I picked one up. The reality is that, for the price, it's a fantastic ereader even if the glowlight ends up going defective on me. The standard at $50 might be a better deal, but it's nice to have all the new bells and whistles that go with the newest model. And maybe the company will address the problem down the road, and the screen won't be an issue. But for the price? Still easily justifiable, and still cheaper than the cheapest Kindle without touchscreen.

I decided against picking up mine, because I didn't want to have to deal with the screen issues. To me, $50 is worth it for the Paperwhite. Especially since I have Prime anyway and get benefits associated with that. Was going to root the Glowlight, but I read horror stories about that screen and how if you barely bump it, it causes a bright light to show.
"Is that it Dad, did the penguin tell you to do it?"

Oddly enough, my favorite ereader (and I've had them all...!) is still the stupid Sony that was on clearance for thirty bucks at Target a while back. Touch screen, ultra thin, directly links to the library system, touch screen and buttons... The screen isn't quite as good as the other readers, but it's so ultra thin and sleek that I don't care. It's a blast to read on it. |

forgot to thank/rep OP! Grabbed a GlowTouch at a semi-local PGH Staples last week.
there's a few deals going around now for purchase of Nooks coming w/$30 gift card but this deal still wins out. likely going to be a new device soon (or everything just being discontinued) but i'm sure people will be happy with this for a pretty long time (especially rooted). |

Picked one up. Very excited to become a "modern" reader!

Picked one up in San Rafael, CA. They weren't out on display but the staff were happy to grab one for me. Just rooting it as I type so I can get my kindle books on it! Thanks op
