+1 on the screen issue. I've read one too many complains about screen issues by people who do not abuse the device, so I wound up going with the Kindle Paperwhite. Had it a couple of weeks now and glad I went in that direction instead.

I would buy a kindle paperwhite if it was $69 but the $50 price difference is just too large. If people are careful and use a case they should be fine. I've never accidentally dropped anything on any of my tablet or nook screens and I have a lot of these devices.

It's better to wait for the Kobo Glo, it's lighter and does not have the screen issue...as far as I've read.

Just called my local Staples and was told they have many in stock but are not on sale. Maybe not nationwide?

I just checked online and says "low stock clearance item" at my local store... the salesperson was probably wrong. will pass by today and find out.

Thanks for the link. Been second guessing myself on my purchase of the kindle paperwhite. I love it, except for the fact that with the light on I get the blobs of color that others have complained about. It's a minor artifact though and way better than reading on my old nook with a book light attached.

you seem new to slickdeals but the number 1 (co #1?) rule of slickdeals is DO NOT CALL! The best case senario for you now is that they just did not bother checking the price and worse case is they saw the price and decided they wanted it so they just said the price that was on the shelf. In the future almost all staple clearance prices are nationwide and if the inventory checker says your store is low stock clearance go to store and get the item. DO NOT CALL

I just picked on up in Orem, Ut. I believe they still have two more available. You have to ask for it, there are no visible signage or models out for display.

Yeah, it's better to do an online chat with Staples.com to find if the item is in stock rather than call the store directly. I did that at 6am Mountain Time before any stores opened over here just to be sure no store employees were alerted of my arrival on doorsteps at 9am. If you call the store directly, employees will be jealous and hide stock items to keep for themselves.

Went to my local store this evening and the manager pulled one out from the back. He tried to push the extended warranty (3-yr, accidental damage) for $25 but I thought SquareTrade would be cheaper so I declined. Now I came home and checked ST's price and it's actually much higher ($70) so I'm wondering if I could still purchase the warranty. I'm afraid to call the store back b/c the manager was kinda condescending to me when I refused to buy the warranty from him.

Edit: finally got the balls to call and the lovely girl on the line told me that I could within 14 days of purchase. And the plan is 2-year Staples warranty that covers accidental damage in addition to 1-year manufacturer warranty. So the total is 3 years.

I wonder why this isn't on the front page, since it's such a slick deal. My store is starting to ship them back so I'm glad I got this deal, esp. since I got my Staples reward from the FAR deal a few weeks back.

That doesn't sound right since the manufacturer does not cover accidental damage. I think you get a 2 year accidental damage warranty that runs concurrently with the manufacturer warranty. So it should be two years total.

You're right. I was iffy about that too b/c I don't trust B&N in the least bit (had a horrible experience returning). However even with 2 year with accidental damage that's still cheaper than what ST offers. I will ask them about the warranty policy when I visit them in a few days.
