Best Buy Coupon: $50 off $100+ In-Store Purchases via Printable Coupon (MasterCard Required)

Picked up a roku2 xs and an apple tv for 50 bucks each at my Salt Lake City Best Buy yesterday afternoon. Also called in to 1888bestbuy this morning and was offered a complimentary $50 BBY gift card. Thought I'd share my data point.

I doubt it. Most scammers wanted to sell them on eBay. I'm sure most of the gift cards are still unused.

Seriously folks, please know what you are talking about.

Businesses are not required to honor any coupon/advertisement that is a mistake, this is the actual law. However, a business may choose to honor a 'mistake' so they do not offend their potential customers.

Also, I do not see how Best Buy could 'deactivate' any of these gift cards because no fraud was perpitrated. The terms of the coupon were there and clearly did not limit the number of coupon uses or limit giftcards, the link was an open link on the website so no hacking is required, it was a printable coupon not a special hard copy. I'm not sure what basis they would have to reclaim their goods/gift cards (it wasn't theft). Best Buy sold you a product at a price they offered.

They might have chosen not to honor the coupon, but once honored and no fraud I don't see how they can go back. Gift card sold for money equals a completed sale/deal. Ever hear of buyer beware, same thing here except seller beware.

Since you claim to have all the answers tell me how BB is going to make the distinction between anyone who bought GC's vs. products (like the Apple TV which according to you is likely also "scamming" since it also wasn't exluded in the original coupon) for some sort of cancellation?

I really hope that some of these people at some point in their lives, attempts to do something nice for someone, and makes a mistake. Then i hope that person makes their life a living hell and sues them for messing up on something they didn't have to do in the first place.

WOW! I just googled "Best Buy Mastercard Promo" and it's getting really ugly on the forums out there. Can you imagine what it's going to be like tomorrow when LOYAL customers start showing up to the stores with their BEST BUY emailed Mastercard promo?!? I really feel sorry for the store managers out there. It's not right that they will be the ones that have to deal with the screaming customer who have in hand the promotional printout good until the end of the week! Honestly Elizabeth, how do you turn those people away? What a PR nightmare this is going to be for a company that can't afford it! Good luck Marketing team at your next weekly team meeting!

BTW, I read somewhere that Wal Mart has caught wind of this BB screw up and are honoring the promo at their stores thru Friday (YMMV). I guess they smell blood.

Gift card purchases had to go through the activation. They may be able to track back the activation.

I don't believe in karma. But I do believe strongly not to push people or anything to the brink. When I got this offer by e-mail, I print one copy and took it to Best Buy to buy some movies. They turned me down even though my purchase would have made Best Buy money. Same goes for people who bought coffeemakers, video cards, harddrives,...etc. However, those who claimed to walked away with $12,000 worth of giftcards, they are simply trying to exploit Best Buy's mistake and make a huge profit for themselves (and huge loss for Best Buy). That's very borderline theft in my opinion. But I understand people are taught differently and my moral standard shouldn't be imposed on others.

Like I said, even if I lose my argument in semantics, the argument is a reflection of the kind of person you are.
