If calling to make a complaint at 1-888-BestBuy, SPECIFICALLY request to speak with CONSUMER RELATIONS. Everyone else will give you the run around! Bestbuy will issue you a $50 GC via mail once they verify your receipt for a SINGLE ITEM purchase of $100+.

**I just spoke with the consumer relates dept. and they told me under no circumstances are they allowed to compensate anyone. This directive came down from the big wigs at HQ.** 01/27/13 15:36

Deal is DEAD! Promo was only good for ONE DAY, Monday January 21, MLK Holiday!

Original LINK finally removed from BB servers sometime on 01.23.13

Edit by ReanimationXP, 1/22/13 @ 12:24pm:
Deal is dead officially, but still working provisionally! YMMV.

A correction like this is false advertising! Don't let this one die so easily, SDers!

I just called 1-888-BestBuy and explained that the manager at the Camelback location in Phoenix, AZ was refusing to honor the deal of the printout I had, and warned this could bring about a false advertising lawsuit. She was very nice and helpful. I was trying to buy Amazon gift cards which she could not pull up online (I coudn't either), but she offered to mail me a $100 gift card and only charge me $50 for it. She also double-checked that I would be able to buy an Amazon gift card with my Best Buy giftcard once it comes in. YMMV, good luck!

EDIT: I just mentioned how they took care of the guy below me with the Keurig, and she sent me $150 gift cards for the price of $50 and express shipped them to me without me even asking! This is incredible! They really don't want a lawsuit Smilie

READ the thread for latest info. Some people got denied when using the coupon.

What has been confirmed based on comment in this thread (WITHOUT manager override)
  • Doesn't work on sale items - Not true according to some but Bestbuy forum confirmed this. It is $50 off regular price
  • One Single item must be more than $100 - Not true according to some but Bestbuy forum link in the beginning of Wiki confirmed One item must be at least $100.
  • Doesn't work on GC - Confirmed to exclude gift cards by a Best Buy representative on Facebook, but YMMV

Note from a Slickdealer about gift cards: "Bought the Amazon GCs and manager thought $50 would be statement credit, told me if I did not get statement credit to come back and he would adjust. Did not want to play that game so returned the GCs and got a printer. The manager had to call their support team, and they said that it does not work on any GCs at all. (YMMV of course). It did not take the $50 automatically on the GCs but did on the printer..."
  • Doesn't work on video games - Not true according to some
  • Doesn't work on Kindle Paperwhite WiFi without manager override
  • Doesn't work on Apple TV without manager override
To qualify for the discount, MasterCard must be used on a purchase of $100 or greater. Some people indicate ONE item need to be over $100, but multiple people have gotten it to work with no override on a combined purchase.

Per the facebook page:
Quote :
Hi Amy-

It has to be ANY Mastercard credit card. Mastercard gift cards would not be accepted.

-Jesse-

Pre-paid master cards may no longer work if the manager is in the loop

* I paid CASH... but had a prepaid Walmart MasterCard($3 fee) in hand because after the cashier and manager were done doing the override,
they paid no attention to the $50 bill I handed over.Just rang it up and gave me the receipt. Smilie
I think the reason is that the coupon didn't scan on the 4 $25 Amazon Kindle gift cards
and they had to take off the $50 manually. If the coupon had scanned, it would probably
not accept any other payment except MasterCard. Smilie

If you don't have a Mastercard, purchase a prepaid Mastercard from any store and use it. Read cashier instructions on coupon. Doesn't seem to have exclusions regarding type of Mastercard.

California
Valencia - purchased multiple blu-rays. bb.com had the LOTR extended blu ray set for $45.99 so price matched plus bought Ted, Sons of Anarchy, Legend and Red Riding Hood. Manager override needed, he came over and knocked down the price of SOA and LOTR to reflect the $50 off. Cashier had issues with the coupon, had to be scanned first but still needed the override to work. paid with best buy card Smilie not mastercard.

Tustin - Wouldn't accept the coupon on multiple items, it had to be over $100 on a single purchase.

Marina - As of 4 pm, my wife was able to snag two Amazon GCs (cashier and manager didn't care). I was able to buy 9 x 16 K-cups, even though the coupon said ONE SINGLE ITEM. The Marina Best Buy is really lax. It's probably because it's in a small town.

Georgia
Atlanta (Perimeter) - Not taking coupon *today* "due to error in BBY system"
Duluth - Worked with Roku 2 XS with mgr. over ride

Maryland
Owings Mills - Gift Cards of any type - no good (manager said no), everything else is okay (minus exceptions) (1/21/13 @ 10:01)

Frederick, MD (21703) - WORKED! needed mgr.. Wanted to buy 3 with seperate transactions, instead mgr took $150 off the canon 430 flash. (scooped for $111, down from $350 on sale for $255)

Minnesota-
St Cloud - I was able to buy the 24" LG LED HDTV Reg Price $229 SALE price $169-$50 coupon = final price of $119 + tax. I was THRILLED! They were very careful at first to make sure it didn't go against any of the restrictions but went through smoothly. I purchased at about 7:30p.m. Monday though. They weren't going to honor it any other day. There were signs all over the store and on the front doors.

Virginia
Manassas (20110) -Worked on Canon lens
Sterling/Dulles - Worked with xbox 320 GB hdd upgrade without any problem
Reston - picked up the last 3TB WD Green. Manager was needed to process the order, but gave me no trouble about the coupon. Got it for $104.99 after tax.
Chantilly - picked up ANOTHER 3TB WD Green. This time for some reason, they gave it to me for $99.74 after tax! Apparently when the manager overrides the price, the result can be different depending on how they do it.
Woodbridge (22193) -Worked on Apple TV w/ Manager Approval at 3pm. Went back and they won't give any discounts to Apple products as of 6pm.

Indiana
Bloomington (47404) - Did not work on gift cards. was able to use it on a Roku XS 2

Willowbrook(77066) - worked on Intel 520 120GB SSD drive. Coupon wouldn't scan but worked on manual entry.
Edit: They have stopped any GC purchase with coupon here in Willowbrook store. They are NOT doing manual override anymore. Whatever scans will be allowed only. Had to buy a kids DVD on top of Roku-2 XS to bring it above $100. Even school supplied or candy won't work Frown.

Coupon still wouldn't take but manager (different from the am, obviously) came over and fixed it no problemo. Smilie
Woodbridge - worked 2 min to closing, but they held firm to exclusing/inclusion list. Poor cashiers were hammered today, so I conveyed to them a heartfelt thanks
Howell - Didnt work on giftcards but I got 2 aqua pure filters for Samsung refrigerator for $100 - $50 total being $50 plus tax. Manager had to override but it worked and still a decent deal.
Howell - around 8pm had signs all over the door that it must be on ONE item equally 100. I walked out empty handed. Frown

Considering the PDF's name was 13729-2_MasterCardPromo_Coupon_final.pdf, it doesn't seem that this was a preliminary draft copy.

Agreed..to a point...but it helps to remember who the target audience is with threads like this. Think more along the line of hyaenas...with computer skills.
You make a good point. From time to time, I read comments from people talking about the "good ol days" of this forum, which make me laugh but it's true - there was a time in this site's infancy where we all helped each other, not called each other expletives because of this reason or that reason, but it's something I've learned to live with as there's no other alternatives.

Why on earth would you even buy ink in BB? 1) ink is the most overpriced computer accessory 2) best buy overprice the already overpriced ink in the store. So what's the point?
What is your point?
CLEARLY says i bought ink at OD not BB!
Bought multiple XL combo packs and XL HP inks and recycled my ink cartridges and used OD rewards and i needed ink.
So what is your point again?

Do realize this deal was meant to be per person, not to be printed and abused. I understand people want a good deal. But remember it was not just a Best Buy deal but it was also a promotion offered though Mastercard, so I am sure they have some of the blame to share.

With hundreds of store and more than 100,000 employees in the US,
Best Buy doesn't have one employee whose #1 job is to check out
the coupon before it gets sent out to millions of customers? If true,
that's just scary. A major corporation running things like that is just
inexcusable.

Best Buy is in the business to make money. They have the absolute
right to refuse to honor a fauty coupon or pricing mistake. There is
no law that says they have to. If you used the coupone prior to the
change in policy, that's great! Smilie I got in on the deal just in time. For
those who got turned down after Best Buy sent out the new memo
with modified conditions on the coupon, I feel bad for you... but there
will be other great deals. Just keep your eyes peeled on Slickdeals. Smilie

I'm just glad I don't own any Best Buy stocks. Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin This thread
has almost a million views. If only 10 percent of them managed to use
the coupon with the original conditions, Best Buy had probably lost
5 to 10 million dollars in one morning. (give or take)

Who is the idiot running things at Best Buy? If the coupon was
really "sent out with incorrect information" as they claimeed,
why haven't they bothered to remove the PDF on their website?

completely false

If the CP was not incorrect when originally posted they have to honor it. Contract and advertising Law does not allow them to change the terms just because "they don't like it"

There is no law "of the land" that allows you to change terms midway just because you don't like the way the deal is going. It's just sad young internet hipsters think there is a law that allows that.

I know my comments in this post will get buried amongst the thousands of posts, which is good because I'm sure it will be unpopular.

Best Buy made a mistake with the coupon that could've cost the company millions of dollars over the next few days. Who knows exactly who/what the coupon was intended for but it's pretty obvious it wasn't intended to reach the amount of people it did or include the initial things it did. Best Buy is well within their right to change or cancel a promotion at any time - just like any other retailer. Sure everyone is quick to slander Best Buy about how bad they were blah blah blah, but fact is they offered something nice for a little while that many, many people took advantage of. The people that could not participate got all bent out of shape because they think they're entitled - but they're not. With few exceptions, this didn't ruin anyone's day other then the fact that you tried to get something cheap and failed. That's fine and all, but don't think Best Buy owes you anything.

I wasn't able to take advantage of this promotion and I'm not losing sleep over it because we'll all collectively move on to the next deal and so on and so on, the world won't end. Best Buy, while unpopular, is the last remaining major big box retailer in the US and if that goes away it would be pretty crappy.

It's easy on an internet forum to huff and puff but lets be real with ourselves for a moment and try to act at least somewhat civilized.

[/soapbox]

PS, I did laugh about the guy photocopying the coupon on the in-store printers.
It is my belief that BB intended the promotion as it was initially conceived, but after having gone "viral", a higher-up beancounter got reports back (feedback) from various managers who put the brakes on various abuses to the original terms of the coupon. Promotions cost money, BB expected that much. They just didn't count on SD threads with posts such as this one's #6 to open the minds of fellow SDers (and lurkers alike) to a whole realm of possibilities of how to get maximum value out of this promo.

I agree with your sentiments wholeheartedly, however as someone up above said, BB by revising the terms and issuing a new coupon while maintaining the liveliness of the original (online), they have (at least for 01/21) performed your classic 'bait and switch'. IMO, anyone who was denied a purchase in-line with the terms of the original coupon as a result of the revised coupon would be well within their right to make a claim....

Once the original coupon got sent out, BB was in a position of "damned if you do, damned if you don't" on honoring the original coupon's terms. Unfortunately for many here, with inconsistent store policies prevailing, many were turned away with little to no success in having their coupons honored. That, IMO, is BB's worst defect; their inconsistency in adhering to a uniform policy as a corporation. (To me, it demonstrates poor leadership or lack thereof straight from the top, and a weak and/or diseased corporate culture to boot.)

Anyway, it's 6am EST here and I kind of forgot/drifted from my point if I had one to begin with... Big Grin My favorite BB excuse and what would have been there 'Ace-In-A-Hole' lie to avoid max collateral damage on this promo was that the typo was the absence of another zero, e.g. "$50 off $1000" ...that could have saved them a few million on 01/21 and allowed them to run the promo in a "save face" fashion as opposed to changing terms, changing duration, etc..

Bait and switch
Quote :
Bait-and-switch is a form of fraud used in retail sales but also practiced in other contexts. First, customers are "baited" by merchants' advertising products or services at a low price; then customers discover the advertised goods are not available. Other products are "switched" for them; however, these items are often costlier.
There was no product, or service promised. Only a promotion. The terms of promotions often change (see cell phone companies handset upgrade program), and sales often change quickly when there is a mistake/misprint (see the lobby of most stores on Sunday after a mistake is made in the paper)

This is 2013, if you don't think stores know about how Slickdealers swarm on sales/mistakes like locusts you are sadly mistaken.

completely false

If the CP was not incorrect when originally posted they have to honor it. Contract and advertising Law does not allow them to change the terms just because "they don't like it"

There is no law "of the land" that allows you to change terms midway just because you don't like the way the deal is going. It's just sad young internet hipsters think there is a law that allows that.

I normally try to stay out of conversations like this, but after reading this thread for the past ~30 minutes, I am dieing to understand why you're being such a douche to so many people on here?

You have a high rep, which generally indicates you positively contribute to these forums, but your attitude is so condescending its not funny. You say things like "young internet hipsters" which should imply you're mature and maturity normally encompasses patience, guidance and understanding. Why so negative? What gives?

The people who got in on this deal who are regular BestBuy shoppers
vs
The people who got in or abused this deal and are regular Amazon/online shoppers
vs
The people who went to the store, didn't get in on this deal and feel bait-and-switched, to rethink shopping at BB in the future

Somehow I get the feeling that this promotion did way more harm than good. Corporate should have just terminated the coupon instead of modifying it and issued bonus RewardZone points for people who tried to claim it after termination. What is wrong with BestBuy management?

I would rather not speculate on schemes. All I am saying is...it is my belief from the stories I read in this thread that should some SDers choose to litigate a claim against BB, the employees involved, etc. for costs/damages associated with their attempt to procure merchandise at BB under the terms of the original coupon that were denied, they could/would receive award for damages in a civil action AND possibly have the court force BB to honor the terms of the original coupon.

Bummer. I had already purchased a $100 prepaid card and the $5.95 activation fee that went with it. Never got to use coupon so I'm out $6 bucks. Oh well.

You are watching way too much reality court TV programming.

The only expense that I can see is the fuel cost.
