more social commentary please

also someone who's "defending" best buy please tell me how I'm an immoral person for attempting to buy an item for 100 dollars that was not on the exclusions list of the revised coupon and how best buy was right to ask for my email and private information.

yeah after they wanted that I left and left the 100 dollar item as well as other stuff that the coupon wouldn't be applied towards. Guess I stuck it to them by not giving them a single penny

If OP posted the coupon, and another SD'er reported different coupon code and so on, would anyone even think about printing the coupon twice regardless of whether "1 person per coupon" or "No copies" were on it? Of course not.

I understand people have different morality and ethic standard. The fact is people made multiple copies because they knew they can get away with it. If they have to think like that, then it's obvious they knew they were doing something they weren't supposed to. I hope no one is stupid enough to think Best Buy would do this without restriction all week long.

I'm not trying to defend Best Buy. Actually I was treated by my Best Buy stores with contempt when I tried to use this coupon. I pulled out my iPhone to show them the e-mails I received. I pulled up my rewardzone silver card. I tried to tell them they are pissing off one of their best customers who actually received the offer by mail. For one of the store I went to, I was a frequent customer and they already knew me by name. They still treated me like I was trying to rip them off.

Best Buy is mostly at fault. But they are allowed to correct mistakes. I don't know why some people cannot accept that. Surely Best Buy handled this matter poorly. If you never received the e-mail offer, there is nothing to be upset with. If I were the one who made off with $12,000 worth of giftcards, I know I wouldn't want to show up again even if I wasn't blacklisted. If you received the offer, print out the e-mail and go to the store again. As someone said, if you talk to them nicely they might be able to do something as they did for me.

Guys please stop talking about moral, ethic and other BS... The company that got abused was not a neighborhood shop and go... It is a multi billion dollar company.. And they will easily recover by selling the $10 HDMI cables for $100 as someone mentioned... Why not sell those $10 cables for $15 and make minimum profit?? They abuse people with no knowledge and sometimes they will get back like this deal..

People who took advantage of it are happy.. People who could not or did not even try are complaining..
This reminds me of the time when DH wanted to buy me a GPS as an anniversary present a few years ago. He is kind of a guy who goes to the first store he sees to grab what he wants and out the store. No deal hunting, no coupons for him. He took me to Best Buy and bought me a $300+ GPS which Amazon sold at half price.shake head I bit my tongue so hard to not let him know what I was thinking. That was super hard!!LMAO

Thank you. Finally someone else able to spot a "not so good" deal for the other SDer. Sure, he saved some $$, but the ultimate winner is BB here.

BB= 1. Another SDer =0, as far as my concern.

Simple.

If BB advertised that Roku for $80, would that SDer even bother to waste gas and time coming to that BB? Heck no! So if that ain't Bait-N-Switch, what else is?
If he was wanting to buy it for himself .. he probably would have. If he was looking to resell, then no he wouldnt .. because guess what... THE PROFIT WOULDNT BE THERE.

So you mean SDers are exactly like Best Buy in the fact that they are in it for a profit?

It's very hard to predict what they will do. It's not a PR nightmare if only a handful of people are affected. You will agree Best Buy are not after people who made multiple copies and bought $100 coffee machine, HD, or video card for $50. They are after those who bought thousands of dollars worth of giftcards at half price. In the end Best Buy will tally up the loss/gain for Monday. They will ultimately determine if it's worth it to cancel the transaction for those giftcard purchases. Believe me, it's very easy to do to find out how many giftcards any one person purchased. They can afford to lose customers who bought Amazon giftcards.

Having the same coupon code could help them in this case in ways they do not realize yet. If the GC scammers file lawsuits, Best Buy can justify canceling those orders because they believe with good reasons that the coupons were photocopied from the same coupon code used by the same person. If people want to disprove that claim, they'd have to dig up their e-mails and I'm sure most of them didn't even receive the offer in the first place.

I'm not sure if you're referring to the $10 off $50 Mastercard offer in November. I didn't have luck using it but I did have the store manager override the discount. I don't recall this on the front page of SD. Not too many people know about it because the stores I went to haven't even seen it. But the stores I went to knew about this $50 off $100 fiasco.
It's not a "handful of customers". It's big news now picked up by news outlets, if they do anything to reverse it, it will be reported by those same outlets.

Dude, give up on your photocopy thing already. It's tired and well disproven.

You just don't get it. Both parties left the table happy in his case. Isn't that what's is all about? You act like you haven't succeeded unless the other party leaves the table crying their eyes out. Does that really make you happy?

i was denied at staples and OD this morning. all they saw was MASTERCARD and said its was a MC promo, not a BB promo. i didn't press the issue.

Successfully bought some ink for my own printers yesterday at OD using the BB coupon. Came back today with copy of the original coupon that has valid date until the 27th. Tried purchasing GC but was told that no coupons allowed on GC. So just spent it on HP ink multipacks, as they are giving $10 GC on $49 HP ink purchase. Even wiith $50 off $100 BB coupon, I still qualified for the free $10 GC. I also would get another $5 back on OD rewards (10% on ink). Now, I just have to resell the HP cartridges to at least cover both purchases that I made.

People like you stuck it to Best Buy the best way possible. They didn't get your business and you didn't have to re-calibrate your moral compass. Well done.

Tried today for a kindle paper white, after like 15 minutes they said the coupon was not valid today even though my copy said other wise.
The coupon did scan in and I think if you purchased something not excluded from the new list it should work.

They did offer 20 off the price, but I decided not to even bother.
Sounds like the MGRs got the memo today "Try your best to deny. If all fail, try the game "OK, we value you as a customer and we'll do whatever it takes to make you happy. How about a whopping $20 discount now? Sounds good to you?"

I'd love to know the inside story on what happened.

It can't be that just 1 person signs off on BestBuy coupons?! To have not just 1 but 3 glaring omissions is strange! (no language about one per customer, gift card exclusions, and failing to make the coupon one-time use)

How is it a bait and switch if the posted list price is $99.99 but the manager gave him 20 off because of the fiasco? He didn't have to. If you are in sales you should know giving away anything is not profiting. You profit by selling at the maximum price possible.
