If calling to make a complaint at 1-888-BestBuy, SPECIFICALLY request to speak with CONSUMER RELATIONS. Everyone else will give you the run around! Bestbuy will issue you a $50 GC via mail once they verify your receipt for a SINGLE ITEM purchase of $100+.

**I just spoke with the consumer relates dept. and they told me under no circumstances are they allowed to compensate anyone. This directive came down from the big wigs at HQ.** 01/27/13 15:36

Deal is DEAD! Promo was only good for ONE DAY, Monday January 21, MLK Holiday!

Original LINK finally removed from BB servers sometime on 01.23.13

Edit by ReanimationXP, 1/22/13 @ 12:24pm:
Deal is dead officially, but still working provisionally! YMMV.

A correction like this is false advertising! Don't let this one die so easily, SDers!

I just called 1-888-BestBuy and explained that the manager at the Camelback location in Phoenix, AZ was refusing to honor the deal of the printout I had, and warned this could bring about a false advertising lawsuit. She was very nice and helpful. I was trying to buy Amazon gift cards which she could not pull up online (I coudn't either), but she offered to mail me a $100 gift card and only charge me $50 for it. She also double-checked that I would be able to buy an Amazon gift card with my Best Buy giftcard once it comes in. YMMV, good luck!

EDIT: I just mentioned how they took care of the guy below me with the Keurig, and she sent me $150 gift cards for the price of $50 and express shipped them to me without me even asking! This is incredible! They really don't want a lawsuit Smilie

READ the thread for latest info. Some people got denied when using the coupon.

What has been confirmed based on comment in this thread (WITHOUT manager override)
  • Doesn't work on sale items - Not true according to some but Bestbuy forum confirmed this. It is $50 off regular price
  • One Single item must be more than $100 - Not true according to some but Bestbuy forum link in the beginning of Wiki confirmed One item must be at least $100.
  • Doesn't work on GC - Confirmed to exclude gift cards by a Best Buy representative on Facebook, but YMMV

Note from a Slickdealer about gift cards: "Bought the Amazon GCs and manager thought $50 would be statement credit, told me if I did not get statement credit to come back and he would adjust. Did not want to play that game so returned the GCs and got a printer. The manager had to call their support team, and they said that it does not work on any GCs at all. (YMMV of course). It did not take the $50 automatically on the GCs but did on the printer..."
  • Doesn't work on video games - Not true according to some
  • Doesn't work on Kindle Paperwhite WiFi without manager override
  • Doesn't work on Apple TV without manager override
To qualify for the discount, MasterCard must be used on a purchase of $100 or greater. Some people indicate ONE item need to be over $100, but multiple people have gotten it to work with no override on a combined purchase.

Per the facebook page:
Quote :
Hi Amy-

It has to be ANY Mastercard credit card. Mastercard gift cards would not be accepted.

-Jesse-

Pre-paid master cards may no longer work if the manager is in the loop

* I paid CASH... but had a prepaid Walmart MasterCard($3 fee) in hand because after the cashier and manager were done doing the override,
they paid no attention to the $50 bill I handed over.Just rang it up and gave me the receipt. Smilie
I think the reason is that the coupon didn't scan on the 4 $25 Amazon Kindle gift cards
and they had to take off the $50 manually. If the coupon had scanned, it would probably
not accept any other payment except MasterCard. Smilie

If you don't have a Mastercard, purchase a prepaid Mastercard from any store and use it. Read cashier instructions on coupon. Doesn't seem to have exclusions regarding type of Mastercard.

California
Valencia - purchased multiple blu-rays. bb.com had the LOTR extended blu ray set for $45.99 so price matched plus bought Ted, Sons of Anarchy, Legend and Red Riding Hood. Manager override needed, he came over and knocked down the price of SOA and LOTR to reflect the $50 off. Cashier had issues with the coupon, had to be scanned first but still needed the override to work. paid with best buy card Smilie not mastercard.

Tustin - Wouldn't accept the coupon on multiple items, it had to be over $100 on a single purchase.

Marina - As of 4 pm, my wife was able to snag two Amazon GCs (cashier and manager didn't care). I was able to buy 9 x 16 K-cups, even though the coupon said ONE SINGLE ITEM. The Marina Best Buy is really lax. It's probably because it's in a small town.

Georgia
Atlanta (Perimeter) - Not taking coupon *today* "due to error in BBY system"
Duluth - Worked with Roku 2 XS with mgr. over ride

Maryland
Owings Mills - Gift Cards of any type - no good (manager said no), everything else is okay (minus exceptions) (1/21/13 @ 10:01)

Frederick, MD (21703) - WORKED! needed mgr.. Wanted to buy 3 with seperate transactions, instead mgr took $150 off the canon 430 flash. (scooped for $111, down from $350 on sale for $255)

Minnesota-
St Cloud - I was able to buy the 24" LG LED HDTV Reg Price $229 SALE price $169-$50 coupon = final price of $119 + tax. I was THRILLED! They were very careful at first to make sure it didn't go against any of the restrictions but went through smoothly. I purchased at about 7:30p.m. Monday though. They weren't going to honor it any other day. There were signs all over the store and on the front doors.

Chantilly - picked up ANOTHER 3TB WD Green. This time for some reason, they gave it to me for $99.74 after tax! Apparently when the manager overrides the price, the result can be different depending on how they do it.
Woodbridge (22193) -Worked on Apple TV w/ Manager Approval at 3pm. Went back and they won't give any discounts to Apple products as of 6pm.

Indiana
Bloomington (47404) - Did not work on gift cards. was able to use it on a Roku XS 2

Edit: They have stopped any GC purchase with coupon here in Willowbrook store. They are NOT doing manual override anymore. Whatever scans will be allowed only. Had to buy a kids DVD on top of Roku-2 XS to bring it above $100. Even school supplied or candy won't work Frown.

Coupon still wouldn't take but manager (different from the am, obviously) came over and fixed it no problemo. Smilie
Woodbridge - worked 2 min to closing, but they held firm to exclusing/inclusion list. Poor cashiers were hammered today, so I conveyed to them a heartfelt thanks
Howell - Didnt work on giftcards but I got 2 aqua pure filters for Samsung refrigerator for $100 - $50 total being $50 plus tax. Manager had to override but it worked and still a decent deal.

Never trust a CSR's words when it counts. That being said why would Amazon cancel the GC unless forced to. They will get 90% or whatever the going rate is for the full price of the gift cards. Great day for them. $millions in EXTRA gift card sales that day and get to stick it to BB at the same time! Definitely worth the 10% to get people to buy things from them at their competitor's store!!! "Gonna go pick up some walmart GC at Target"!!!!
Thanks, Going to use the gift card soon in this case.

Anyone that tries to argue that buying thousands of dollars of gift cards with coupons intended for certain recipients and that you're not suppose to copy is ethical is the definition of the sliding scale of ethics. If it fits with what you want to do, it's easy to rationalize. That doesn't make it right or ethical. A lot of people on here know the deals in dollars and cents but not the value--or cost--of anything.

IMO, anyone who hates Best Buy or wants them to go out of business simply dont know how to shop.

Im not trying to defend BB because I'm glad they exist but I'm also not in love with them. But that doesnt mean they don't serve a purpose for a savvy shopper. They often have good sales. Theyre a decent showroom. Reward Zone. Local purchase and returns. And when it comes to situations like this coupon then I just dont understand the level of anger towards them.

If any SD veteran got the email then they likely planned their day around getting into BB as early as possible because a deal like $50 off $100 was clearly too good to be true. So if they hit a best buy for $200 in GC's and then hopped to the next BB to get a hard drive and Apple TV then I have no problem with it because thats how the classic SD effect works. Diligent cheapskates get the best deals.

But where I have a problem is when these people who never got the email start crying foul because at 8PM then new rules were established to prevent the coupon from being overused. Sure, you can whine for days on end about how "CA law states..." or scream "I'll never shop at this store that i never shop at!" but lets be honest. The moment ANYONE saw the deal then they knew it wasnt going to last so why act like such turds about a situation playing out exactly as expected?
Unfortunately, we assume we are dealing with a mostly mature crowd here, which is nowhere close to being true. 25% of the post here is sensible and logically, others, emotional, immature, speak before you think, cry baby get what they always want type of folks. Crazy

So Amazon is not physically in that state, but BB is, but BB should pay the tax for the item YOU want...okkkkkkkaayyyyy. Nono

If tax is such a big deal for folks, move to one of the three states that has no tax Big Grin

I bet you if Amazon had stores, those prices would probably be on par to handle such overhead. There is probably a reason why Amazon doesn't show any sign they will do such a thing, yet folks don't seem to appreciate being able to view a product before buying.
I agree

Pretty much every state has on their 2012 forms that if you had purchased something out of state without paying sales tax, you are to include that information on the tax return, and pay appropriate sales tax.

So, whether Amazon collects sales taxes in your particular state is irrelevant, you WILL pay sales tax on internet purchases when you file. And if you think you are smarter than the IRS and state taxation agencies, think again.

Anything you buy on the internet with a credit or debit card leaves a paper trail. Shipping companies like UPS, FedEX and USPS have paper trails of deliveries as well.

States have the power to subpoena those records.

So, you WILL pay sales tax and interest and possibly penalty when they come after you.

States are really hungry for money, and they will go after tax evaders, whether it is $10 or $1000, they will make a case of it.

[QUOTE=taiwan;57058804]Really... How many times have you seen threads on SD where people say "I hope Amazon would PM" or "Waiting for Amazon to PM". You're forgetting Best Buy's does not have "ONLINE" price match policy (with the exception of holidays). Their price match will only work if you bring ad from Target or Walmart.[/QUOTE

A rarity because the majority of the time in reference to best buy, amazon's prices are consistently lower and so there is no need to price match. On the rare exception, it can happen (amazon matching best buy).

Exactly right. I was going to purchase one $100 gift card, if allowed. I wasn't allowed, so instead I picked out a 3DS XL, which was approved.

The idea that you could even be naive enough to believe that they would allow unlimited $100 gift cards for $50 is so moronic it's not even worth responding to people who continue to defend the idea. It would make anyone an instant-Millionaire and put Best Buy instantly out of business.
Eye of the beholder. Your interpretation of the coupon reflects the kind of person you are. But we are the minority. I saw the coupon and I applied some common sense. I knew it was too good to be true so they probably forgot to set some limit. Some people saw the coupon and saw bunch of loopholes and opportunity to rip off Best Buy. Yes, the coupon did not have limitation. But a decent person should put a limitation. It was obviously a mistake and Best Buy would lose a ton selling $100 Amazon giftcards for $50. We're talking about a company that's on the brink, and it's sad to see vultures who took the opportunity to stab Best Buy in the back and push it to bankrupcy sooner.

Sooner or later it would be acceptable to take an old lady's purse. Hey it's your fault that you fall down. I don't have the obligation to help you up. You forgot the purse so I took it. You left it and I found it. It's not my fault.

I'm neither a BB shareholder, employee, nor delusional. We're just different type of shoppers. I agree if you want something that's not on sale, Amazon's price always beat BB's price. If I want some random Canon printer or DSLR, I look up Amazon and BB and Amazon always wins. But I don't buy things if they are not on sale. I buy mostly movies and only when they are on sale. On the week Ted Blu-ray was released, Target sells it for 22.99, Best Buy 19.99, and Amazon 19.99. But Amazon didn't have it priced at $19.99 until the item was released on Tuesday. But you always get next week's Best Buy ad Wednesday or Thurdsay of previous week, so Best Buy already told you they were going to price it $19.99 from Tuesday to Saturday. After the sale ends, price went up to $24.99 on Sunday for Amazon, BB, and Target. So who is matching whose price? Another example, I bought Game of Thrones collector's Blu-ray for $60 from Amazon. Few weeks later Best Buy had it for $40. Amazon also dropped the price to $40, but because they wouldn't give me back $20 I just returned the item. All I can say is that if Best Buy runs some sale, Amazon always follows and match the price.

Like I said we're probably totally different type of shoppers so we see things differently. The biggest item I bought from Amazon last year was a electric rechargeable lawnmower. I save on tax and the trouble of carrying it from Lowe's or Homedepot to my house. I know some guy who bought tons of equipment because he's a contractor in construction business. He loves Amazon to death.
Actually, the best deal for Ted was at Dominicks in Chicago. Safeway may have had the same deal but it was $19.99 for the BR combo along with two energy drinks, a big bag of chips, and a bottle of Axe shampoo. This occurred the week Ted came out.

Well put Thumbup
Many state governors have dealt with this issues and ultimately decided that it's states' responsibility to collect tax, not consumer's responsibility to report on sales tax on internet purchases. You go to H&R Block and they won't even bother asking you to fill it in. Even if IRS audits, it's a lot of hassle for them to find out how much sales tax you owe. I have purchases from smaller online merchants I hardly remember. If states really want to make Amazon collect sales tax, then it should follow what Virginia has done (Amazon will be collecting sales tax in Virginia this year).

Question for you. I was expressly given permission, not just by the coupon, but by the manager of the store I went to. I asked him specific situations, such as "can I use this on gift cards, and can I use it more than once?'. He explicitly gave me permission for both. Like others, I went to the store to try to get a set of $100 gift cards for $50, expecting to be shot down, and then to use the coupon on another item (namely a mechanical keyboard). Instead, I asked the manager, he gave me permission, so I bought a few sets of the gift cards AND the keyboard. Does that make me a bad person?

I think you're wrong, because most average joe's I know tend to go to Best Buy because they can see all the models, ask dumb questions, and pick out a Samsung w/ a 3 year accident forgiveness warranty.

The more informed crowd, the Amazon crowd, is still the minority overall.
I do agree with you somewhat but I was only speaking from my own personal experience. I will say that many of those uninformed around me are wising up and I think it is happening more than just around me, Hence, BB being on the verge of folding.

Agree! This thread is like having sex on Sunday night and still brag how great it was 2 months later (try a new sex episode and discuss about this new episode instead). Move on! Do something NEW and then discuss about it!
