This has been the normal price for a while now. Waiting/hoping someone has some deals again like a few months back ($79.99)

I do see that is has trended down a little this month, but I certainly wouldn't call <$100 the "normal price for a while now". And the other thread you mentioned - while a great price, was back around Black Friday. I bought my other one in early December but that price was long gone by then.

this thing when I owned it was awful, I returned it within 30 days, Idk if it got any better with updates, but I've been using a boxee box and this thing even though it has android apps it doesn't do a great job with video files, clumsy interface.

XBMC for android now a stable release for the Amlogic processors (Like the PIVOS XIOS). I would say buy a dual core if you plan on running any plugins. Meaning pass on this one for me.
