I actually just converted from an Areca 1231 RAID card and 8 x 1TB drives over to a Synology Diskstation. Cost was about the same, but the Synology is MUCH easier to handle. Less power, runs DLNA for all my media needs, link aggregation (if your switch supports it) so you get double the transfer speeds of a normal NIC. Add automatic torrent/RSS feed downloads, MySQL, PHP, web hosting, ticket monitoring, DHCP, and a whole host of other internal and 3rd party apps and you can't go wrong.
It's finicky, I'll give it that, but so far it's been super stable. Just had to take the time to learn how to set up each component. |
