Yeah, a hammer drill kinda hammers as it drills...great for concrete block (exterior walls) and things of that nature. Way overkill for simple drywall

No the drill is variable speed. When it says two speed it means it has has two ranges of speed. Low speed is to 1100 RPM and high is to 3100 RPM

Not *all* hammer drills can have the feature turned off, but pretty much all of the new ones can (including this one) turning it into a standard drill.

Bought the 7.0 amp version of this drill new from Lowes for $70 (the non-hammer version was the same or maybe $5 less). It is FANTASTIC. I'm of the opinion that everyone should own a corded drill for applications requiring higher torque than your cordless tools can deliver, and this is a perfect candidate for that IMO, especially for $30.

And yes, the two-speed function is basically two gears to engage, a lower speed one with more torque and a higher speed one with less, but the trigger on the drill is not digital, it's analog.

What kind of drill do people use to mix drywall compound like a boss? Probably not a 2 speed like this one.

I've used a hammer drill at work before, to hang Access Points onto cinder block. Wowzas are they powerful. Especially while balanced on a 12 foot ladder.

A lot of my drills fail when trying to drill through large pieces of lumber, might give this one a chance for only $30.
