Currently holding RIMM. I bought back when everyone was giving them crap about dying because I loved the brand and thought they were too big to die without a nice little upswing and fight. With that said... I am not a believer in Blackberry 10.

Blackberry 10 is going to flop, probably worse than WP8.

Here's why - There's really no reason at this point for the average user to go with a Blackberry phone. If you want functionality and power, you go Android. If you want ease-of-use, you go iPhone. If you want integration with your computer stuff and a smooth experience, maybe you go with WP8.

Blackberry used to be the best for texting, emails, and business. Now that they're launching a new OS, it's not going to have the most business integration features. Email and texting aren't going to be much better (probably worse, even) than the email and texting available on Android and iPhone.

BB10 will have a very small app ecosystem in comparison to Android and iPhone. Yes, they'll have the basics, but the other platforms will continue to get much stronger developer support.

It's not going to die out completely (at least not yet, I don't think), but I think it'll be around the WP8 level at best, probably lower. Yes, they'll push it and say how great it is, but apps and hardware are what matters, and they just won't have it. They'll have decent hardware, they'll have some apps, but if you're gonna spend $200 (subsidized) on a phone, you're gonna want the best hardware and the best app choices. Unfortunately for RIM, BB10 just won't have this.

Can't you say the same thing about Android's original release? They didn't have nearly the app selection as iPhone did originally either, but still competed with Apple.

I'm not saying BB10 will be a success, but no phone company will come in with a complete app store, its how they develop that app store and market their phones that will get them some market share.

The difference between this release and Android's original release was that Android was only competing with Apple, and a had a few big selling points over Apple (open source, much more customization, choices of hardware, etc).

BB10 is now competing with 3 other major mobile OS's, and they really don't have a big selling point to appeal to the average consumer. I think they'll get customers, but I really doubt they'll grow as big as Android or iOS any time soon. Maybe they'll catch up to WP8, but even WP8 had a selling point- strong integration with Windows and XBox.

What mass appeal does RIM have over any other platform?
