Aluminized steel is extremely poor material. I had Speedy Muffler replace my muffler on my van with an aluminized system and it was rusted out in a year. I was so mad that they replaced it for a marginally cost with a "new" type aluminized steel, which subsequently rusted out in 2 years. I was so fed up I went to the junk yard and pulled a used OEM one. Later on another vehicle I had to replace my exhaust end as my SUV would not pass inspection. I had to grab some flex pipe at the auto parts store which was also aluminized steel. The flex pipe was rusted out in a year. But now with some time I was able to order some 3" stainless flex pipe I believe at JC Whitney as it was on sale for like $12 for 10', The stainless is still holding up after 5 years. Aluminized steel is just crap. And I live in Maryland with relatively mild winters; one benefit of global warming
Aluminized steel will rust out quickly if you live in an area that salts roads. I also live in MD and aluminized steel is a poor choice for exhaust tubing on a daily driver in our area. The aluminum coating is what keeps the exhaust from rusting out because underneath is mild steel. Thin aluminized steel will rust out quickly once the aluminum coating is damaged (at the welds, scratches, etc). I ran a 16 gauge 3" aluminized steel exhaust on my BMW for over a season (through two winters) and when I pulled it off, it actually looked surprisingly good. All that said, aluminized steel is a good way to save money for exhaust on a marginal car, a car in an area that does not see salt, or as a cost saving choice on a project car. I'll be using this (if it ships) to build an exhaust for my project BMW so that I can break the engine in before fitting it with a turbo. When I build the turbo back exhaust, I may reuse the header back section for a while but eventually it will be stainless.

Thing is, OEM didn't/don't always use stainless either, yet most people's non-stainless OEM exhausts probably last at least 5 years (and often much longer) even in snow states.
Stainless steel can rust out quickly too. Just depends what kind. I remember a big-name racing company years back sell their fancy stainless aftermarket exhaust at an inflated price. It looked pretty, but person after person complained it rusted out in a year or two.
I've put together exhausts with different aluminized pieces from different suppliers, and the pieces from one supplier would look bad within a year or two while the pieces from another supplier still looked rather good after five years. I had a stainless muffler from... hmm, can't think of the brand, but it's fairly popular, and after 3(?) years on it the aluminized rest of the exhaust looked better than the stainless muffler did.
They actually charged my cc for the amount of tubing I got along with a separate charge for the rest of my order, then refunded the charge for just the tubing, THEN sent me a ship notice for my order minus the tubing as if I never ordered it. Never got a cancel notice or a refund notice.
My PayPal charge is still pending - and it will be until it falls out of the system.
There was no way they were going to eat that kind of shipping cost.
Even if the original deal was legit - which it probably wasn't.
I have moved on.
I ended up caling as its been almost two weeks and the woman on the phone told me it was pending and that she would have to call the vendor to check on the status since it was special order item and they dont stock them, they order them as needed from the vendor. I am waiting on her to call me back but at least from Autozone's end it seems like the order is still progressing.
