I'm confused, thumbs down with no replies.
Just the Bose Acoustimass 6 every other location is $699 yet you get a receiver w/ this.
I was considering these speakers, any insight or better 5.1 speakers would be appreciated.

Here are some suggestions. They beat the crap out of those Bose any day.

FYI, no lows, no highs, it must be Bose. When you hear the name Bose, put your money back in your wallet and run.

No high, no lows, must be Bose ... because you know way better than 300 sound engineers who have dedicated their lives to sound with a company founded by an MIT professor.

I fail to understand why that company gets killed on this site other than price.

They get killed here because they are overpriced for what they offer. IF the prices were about 75% less, that'd be more reasonable. They appeal to the uninformed masses. And they sue anyone who gives an honest review of their product.
How do you think they can afford full page ads in every magazine you pick up? they sell overpriced, underperforming products. Do your research, instead of drinking the BlOSE kool-aid.

They get killed on any forum where people take their music/AV experience even moderately serious because its junk science combined with poor quality components at bloated prices.

I see the price for this on Amazon is 1299 and in Costco I can get it for 799, is it worth buying? I have Samsung 3D TV and am looking for a good home theater system. Other options are Samsung systems but I am keen on buying Bose. Suggestion please

They don't underperform. They perform perfectly for what they should do. The only problem is the price and lack of sales/discounts.

And, every goddamn company has full page ads. That doesn't make them a marketing juggernaut. I've seen two commercials for Bose in my life. One at 1 AM about their radio, and then recently a commercial during NFL games. That's it.

People who don't like them seem uniformly against them with the exact same bullshit answers. "They're expensive ,...AND they suck!" No they don't. They sound fine. No one has a level-headed opinion about them. It's really weird.

Again -- a weird, demonizing answer. "Everything they've ever made is shit, and it's too expensive, and they lie." It was literally founded by a group of people from MIT, so I don't know how much junk science really slips in there. It seems like they try to make sound equipment for the general population, not super-obnoxious audiophiles. And they're doing a good job with doing exactly what they set out to do.

I mean, don't get me wrong, this is pretty expensive. But the Bose-bashing gets to me.

Now that's funny. I guess they sound fine if you've never heard better. Why don't they publish frequency response charts? Why don't they have any THX certified speakers? Why do they not allow their 'certified vendors' to place them in the same area as other speakers? And how many times do you listen to them in your home with the rear speakers suspended on curved holders 1 foot behind your head? If you've ever compared them to any of the ID speakers companies, you'd eat your own words.

yes, they do suck, and they're expensive. you've been drinking their Kool-Aid, or you are trying to justify your own foolish purchase. Ever hear of cognitive dissonance? Do a little research.

I don't own a system. I'm arguing because I just keep seeing really weak logic from other people. ("They don't print frequency numbers, so the only possible reason they do that is because they suck.") If you can display your product in a separate area than the others, then you do it. That's pretty simple to figure out. And why would you want the speakers one foot behind your head? But I was wondering about the story behind frequency response thing, so I looked up why they wouldn't display them.

It turns out that frequency response numbers are actually very significant to the company. The guy who started Bose -- Amar Bose, again, an MIT professor -- bought some speakers based on frequency response back in the 60's. Based on the numbers, the speakers should have been really good, but they weren't. He started his own company and was dead-set against using frequency response numbers as a selling point, because when people see those numbers, they base too much information solely on the numbers rather than listening for themselves. Frequency response numbers might be the reason he even started the company!

So, with that, I guess the real question is: is it ironic when someone with this head up his ass tells other people to practice cognitive dissonance? Or it is just annoying?
