The best I can find on this drive's speed, from another retailer:
Western Digital (-1) with unknown, likely 5400 rpm (-1) in a USB 2.0 enclosure (-1) with a 1-year warranty (-1) and a mail-in-rebate (-1)
I've had about 20 WD drives, 15 of which have failed ... 30+ Seagate drives, 1 of which might likely have problems (currently looking into it).
Even without taxes, this drive doesn't look appetizing...
I'm looking for a bear-bones drive, but after ripping this thing out and using it (setting aside the fact that the enclosure is only USB 2.0), I'm worried it's going to fail (even considering that this would be used for non-essential files) :|
Repped - I assume your name comes from the year you purchased all the WD drives and had them fail. :lol -- maybe not, having a hard drive fail usually stinks so much you really can't laugh at it...
Not surprised that it doesn't look appetizing to you since you just indicated that you hate Western Digital drives.
I wonder why you even entered the thread when you already know you don't like the manufacturer.
That's not fair. He's had a large number of failures, researches to see if maybe the manufacturer has by some off chance put a better unit in it, and then documents not only his TD experience, but a good alternative, i.e. Seagate. That's why I repped him - and your deal is good to, I haven't seen these prices since the Thai floods, it's just he's giving people a legit warning. Saved me the grief of researching myself if they've improved substantially, I'm only vaguely in the market anyway.

Mr. Harley: I'm afraid my people haven't. I'm very sorry. I wish it were otherwise.
Facts burns! Facts burns us! Numbers freezes! Nasty liberals twisted it. Take it off us! - deliberate misquote while arguing factoids about healthcare cost inflation.
You may be born stupid, but ignorance is a choice - personal observation.

Rebate issues aside, I don't think I can bring myself to buy any hard drive, internal or external that comes only with a 1 year warranty. They should bring that EU directive here to America, a minimum 2-year guarantee required on all consumer goods such as electronics.
Especially hard drives, I've lost so many drives at the 14 month point, it sucks. Although the 3 I have now running 24/7 have been going for 2.5 years with no issues at all. Maybe I'm just lucky with these three.
