You got it - perc6. Running 5 drives in a RAID5 now. Want to max it out with 8 and go RAID6.

I ordered one of these from Amazon a couple of weeks ago. I was scared of DOA because of all of the Newegg reviews. It didn't come in the most secure packaging, but I got no bad sectors after running WD Data Lifeguard.

I also didn't want to deal with return postage to Newegg, which Amazon always pays for if something's wrong with their products upon arrival.

It's a great drive though, fast enough for storage for sure.

In for two from Newegg. No tax makes this better than Amazon for me since Texas pays tax now.

I've written this numerous times in quite a few threads. You NEVER should return a hard drive after a few months of use because there's no doubt you will have important personal information on it and possibly even a few cookies and temp files that might have your financial information. Whether the files are encrypted or not, I wouldn't take a chance on returning a drive after a few months use unless you can wipe it clean with a software program and a reformat command. Unfortunately, the reason for needing a replacement drive probably means the thing crashed. As an example, say you have a password program like Lastpass or Keypass on the drive.
Even though the data file of those programs is password protected, and possibly encrypted, would you still feel secure in letting someone refurbish that drive with your password file on it?


Someone mentioned in a previous thread that one of the HD manufacturers just asks you to run some tests and send them the printout, with no need to send back the drive. That's the only way I would try for a replacement drive. Otherwise I would just eat the cost.

I would love it if this were true. I'd really like to see more info, but my experience is that they want their crap back...

If the files are encrypted it's fine. No one is interested enough in your data to deal with decrypting a TrueCrypt volume or other encryption modalities....

BTW, officially, all the HDD manufacturers destroy/low level format returned drives as standard practice. Not to say this couldn't be false/lies...just saying. If they didn't they are opening to significant legal issues if customers data was stolen causing identify theft etc.

Just TLER would not make it run cooler, quieter, and much faster than green (and even some black) drives.

I got five 3TB Reds from Newegg, and they came in a box that held a styrofoam rack with slots for twenty HDDs. For four drives you might get the same. All of the drives are working great BTW (and I didn't leave a review ).
