part of me wants to pick one of these up just to mod it to my video card. Experience has taught me however that this is probably not a wise use of my time.

Eh.. only my gaming box is an LGA1155, and I'm happy with the Hyper 212+/Evo.

All my other builds are either AM3/AM3+ or LGA1366/2011.

Really? Theses are the type of crap coolers I throw away that come with the processor. Garbage. 120mm slow moving fan or might as well go with stock fan for free. Chit the CM Evo 212 is only like $25 its insane to get anything else.

For some reason OP didn't bother to mention it's only for 1155 and 1156 CPUs, or the $3.99 shipping either. Lazy.

This cooler is probably only good for someone who broke their OEM cooler.

I hate those Intel push pin. Why cant they design it better? Once you screwed, you just have to yank it out n get a new fan like this!

LGA 1155 and LGA 775 are identical when observed from above, so the mounting pins will actually align with the mounting holes. However, the heatsink "elevation" is different between these two sockets, 775 being taller than 1155. In other words, this heatsink in its original form will not fit over a 775 CPU: the locking pins won't reach the motherboard.

You can always invent some solution for this, but it'll requre extra effort.

Had a previous AC... great heatsink... poor quality fan. Had to dig out the original

1. Not everyone require the best cooling solution. This is THE cheapest (free).
2. This comes with thermal paste already applied, so you'd save another $5 or so.
3. The 212 is much taller than this one and may not fit in some cases.
4. Not everyone bought NEW BOXED CPU's so the price is right? Not a good idea to buy a boxed CPU and then throw away the HSF anyway.
