Yamaha RX-V373 5.1 Receiver for $188 FS (Frys.com and Amazon)

I've tried to figure this out based on the product description and can't find it - does this unit upconvert SD sources to be delivered to the TV over the HDMI cable? In future, how do I determine that?

I think I answered you in the other thread. The 471 is superior, but it's not night and day. I agree that dealing with Amazon is much better than Newegg, but for $199 for the 471, to me it's a no brainer. It's got more power, all banana plugs on the back, but otherwise is roughly the same. Some say the 373 doesn't have a great LFE output. And on AVS Forums, they always say model line beats model year when it comes to receivers. So 4xx>3xx. Unless you need other things (networking, etc).

It's Yamaha, don't forget - they make the most reliable receivers in the business. You won't regret either one.

To whoever mentioned the 509 for $130 - don't forget it's still Onkyo, and that model is notorious for HDMI switch problems - TONS of returns. Onkyo is terribly unreliable.

No HDMI pass-through. Not sure why that's such a popular feature, but to each his own.

When I watch TV at night and the kid is asleep, I just use my Sennheiser wireless headphones - much better than my TV speakers

100% agree after getting burned with the Onkyo RC-270. Not worth sending it in to get "fixed" which lasts only a little while before breaking again.

The a720 is a kick ass receiver and $320 is WELL BELOW cost price. If I were you, I would buy it right now and sell it. With eBay buy it not price's being at $559, that's $240 profit, excluding eBay fees.

I bought the receiver in the $400 range and if you keep it for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

No up convert on this (373). I got it months ago and I love it. It does everything I need for a 5.1 theater and lots more. It is super reliable and has more power than I need or will ever need for normal theater use.
It is very well made and has not disappointed at all.

How easy is to set it up with a 5.1 system? I saw in the hometheater.com that, it is easier for noobies like me to setup a home theater system with the receivers having Audyssey EQ setup and Yamaha doesn't have it.

Yamaha uses YPAO to setup speakers. It is their equivalent of Audyssey.

Are you certain? From my understanding, the 373 doesn't have HDMI standby. You have to move up to the 473 to get Standby mode.

The 373 does not have HDMI standby pass-through, neither did the 371...but the work-around is Optical or ARC from TV to Receiver

pretty sure the A720 isn't on clearance, had to be some sort of mistake, can you upload any shots?

I would go with the 471 from Newegg for a few more $ over the 373 if my choices were limited...has HDMI PT...etc...
