are they complicated to install? Would i need a locksmith? Never installed a lock b4.

Very easy to rekey. You can pick up a schalge kit if you want to do it yourself. I've seen them for under $20 or have a locksmith do it. typically $10 to $20 per cylinder.

Is your door already drilled for a lock? If so, very easy. If you, you need a jig but if you're okay with power tools, then I would say very easy too with a good jig.

Do you have to install a separate handle or can you open the door by pulling on the knob?

I was going to replace the cheap lock that came with the door. It's a dead bolt that probablh is easy to pick. Any special alignments necessary to install?

Typically not. Sometimes offset for the bolt maybe 2 3/4 rather 2 3/8 but that's not that common. Measure the edge of the door to the center of the hole.

Sometimes you may have to clean up the mortises where the bolt mounts to the door and the hole in the jamb where it mates. Easily done with some chisel work.

But I would say if your door is last 30 years there is more than 90% chance you just replace. The offset on the bolt is easy to fix by changing out the bolt for the correct offset, about $10 at the hardware store. Some Schlages come with adjustable bolts that change from 2 3/8" offset to 2 3/4"

Thanks for help, will look at it when i get unit. Worst that can happen i replace original and call locksmith. Or check out youtube.

Absolutely love this lock. I actually bought one at Lowes for ~$130 just to try it out and make sure it would fit/work. It literally took 5 minutes to remove my old deadbolt and put this one on. Then I bought 2 of these just before Christmas at the $99 Amazon price and returned one to Lowes (same exact package and bar code).

Now that my car has keyless entry/go, having this lock means I basically never have to take my keys out of my coat pocket. <3
