Schlage BE365VCAM619 Camelot Keypad Deadbolt, Satin Nickel [amazon.com] - $86.43
This type of lock doesn't connect with wifi and it doesn't lock or unlock electonically. The way it works is that it has a latch on the front and back to open or close the deadbolt. On the inside you can open or close it at any time. On the outside it spins freely unless 1) It is locked in which case you need to type in the code to actuate the latch. 2) It is unlocked so you can press the "schlage" button, which will actuate the latch and you can lock it. You better know the code if you do that or else you will be locked out! The keys are backlit for convenience when it's dark. Because it doesn't actually move the deadbolt, the battery lasts a very long time. It has a master code so you can program unique access codes that you can give out to different people. That way you can remove one person without removing everyone else. In Texas, it seems like most of the garages are not attached to the house, which is the case with us. It's convenient to have these on the back door and garage door for easy access and easy locking. I've been waiting a while for the price to go down. I ordered an open box unit for the same price from warehouse deals a month ago so I was happy to see this price for a new one.

Hi,

I am confused as to what this does...If it doesn't move the dead bolt, I still need a key to open the door. What is the point then?
You type in the code and then you can turn the lock from the outside without needing a key.

I have this and it works well, especially useful when you start the car and realize u need to run in... don't have to remove the keys and restart the car. I rekeyed 12 locks in and around my house with a schlage retail re-key kit which costs $110ish, but at $9 a pop at ace hardware to re-key it paid for itself, and came with enough pins to re-key hundreds of locks. I could probably re-sell it on ebay for what I paid for it right now. I actually re-keyed my locks to be the same at all my locations so I have one key that works everywhere.

FWIW I purchased a front entry handle/keypad combo which brought the cost of this effectively down to ~$40. I also disabled the lock on the door this is on so that I can't possibly get locked out.

Once you enter your code using the buttons, you can use the "knob" on the outside of the door to open the lock.
Or, you can open the lock by using your key without entering the code.
I have the same with lever handle on my front door, and never have anything except Schlage; they make fine locks.

Can you lock these from the outside without a key? I assume you can, but I've never used one and didn't see it stated anywhere. If so, how?

Yes, you press the "schlage" button on the keypad and it will allow you to lock the deadbolt from the outside without using the code.

That thread has the SKU. Best bet is to go to a RS and have them check your district and do a transfer if they find any.

Very slick! What is the realistic list price of one of these? Do you suppose that it would be easily rekayable to match my current Schlage key?

why not get the kwikset one that dips to this range often at HD and amazon? you can rekey it yourself.. my front and back are baldwin (which is now owned by KS), and they all rekey in about 3 seconds.

I have had this lock for about a year. It is good quality and works fine. I used to have a fingerprint door lock, but it was unreliable (by a different manufacturer). I read some bad reviews on the qwikset one before.
