Looking for deals (or even just recommendations) on a safari
Well, my dream trip has come along earlier in life than I expected - it sounds like we'll be headed to Africa this summer for a safari. But, of course, being a cheap SDer, it kills me how much this stuff costs.
Does anybody have any tips on where to find & book a cheap, good safari? This isn't my first time to Africa, so I know there are plenty of scams, and that you don't necessarily want to take the very cheapest option you can find. Or have you been on one that you really enjoyed, even though the price was a little higher? I actually have a couple contacts on the ground in Nairobi, if you know of something that has to be booked there - I know prices are often higher for Americans.
Of course, most flights go in through Nairobi or Johannesburg/Cape Town, so those would probably be the two places we'd be considering leaving from. We're looking to go sometime in early July - I know, I know, it's the high season, but it's the only time that will work for us.
And hey, if you know a super secret to getting a cheap flight to one of those locations, send it my way. Even if it's something along the lines of C1 > C2 > C5, if you know what I mean.
EDIT: For clarification, this is a PHOTO safari. I honestly forgot that the term originally implied hunting.
