It's not a bad deal, but their commissions are way too high for a discount broker. If you like to tinker with your port, it's not a good idea when coupled with the exit fees from your current institution.

For new customers however, who choose to have their retirement money sit for years on a stable portfolio, it could work.

Because it's not lucrative if you can do math.

The money has to stay there for a half year, so your return is only really 1%. Then there is tax on top of that, you can easily get that 1% by park your money at a online saving account.

umm maybe most people are too stupid?..lol...i have a bunch of stocks that i dontplan on selling for a couple of years like mo which pays a 6% dividend yield and other stocks that have low beta's. it takes less then 5 mins to make the account to get 500 bucks and then when the 9 months are up im just gunna move the assets some where else and make more money.

if you're not going to invest, it's better to put that into a smartypig account for 1%

not if u want to own stocks for the long run if u earn 1 percent ur actually loosing money due to inflation.

and what he means by repark is if u own say 100 grand worth of stock A u can just transfer that stock to sharebuilder and get 500 bucks to fill out a 5 min application and u still own 100 grand of stock A

If some of you were able to be smart enough and save over 50k but left it in a savings, are you really sure you know what you're doing? It's melting from inflation, least you could do is buy a long term stock if you have back up money + 50k (investments). If you're in for the long term, it wouldn't matter if it went down a few or up a few.. Check out MAKO and DNDN.

i've been following dndn since mid 09 but haven't heard of mako. what's up with them?
