They're rated at a start IOPS once you put stuff on it it drops way down. And obviously no one will keep an empty ssd. The best ones are the Samsung 830, 840 Pro and Intel series

Are you 100% positive? haven't been keeping up with computer hardware in a while. I'm looking to do a mod on my iMac and swap out the SuperDrive for an ssd to create a fusion drive with my existing 5400rpm hd and according to the tutorials you need sata 2 as the connectors are only for sata2 and sata 3 is not supported. If the connectors are the same then I really don't care about the slower bus speed of it performing at sata 2 speeds. Ive been seeing great deals on sata 3 and haven't jumped on them for this reason.

Sata is completely backwards compatible (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seri...bit.2Fs.29). However I'm not sure about apple hardware, if it uses a sata 2 connector for the SuperDrive then it should work without problems.
