Manatee County sheriff's deputies continue to investigate an incident in which a man fatally shot an alleged robbery suspect Sunday night at his Bradenton home.

Two men were sitting in the carport of a residence in the 4200 block of 24th Street West about 10:20 p.m. when three suspects, dressed in black and wearing masks, approached on foot. James Brady, 26, allegedly pointed a handgun at one of the victims, ordering him to the ground, according to the sheriff's office.

That's when the victim, who has a conceal-carry license, pulled out a handgun, according to Dave Bristow, sheriff's office spokesman. Gunfire exchanged between the two men

Score one more for the good guys.

Police use 00 buck because they may have to shoot through car doors.
Actually, 00 buck isn't that great at shooting through cars. Law enforcement has been ditching shotguns for AR's, for that reason as well as a myriad of others. (Smaller officers who can't shoot them well is another major reason, despite Biden's ignorance on the subject). In a few years, they'll be rare to see in patrol cars, except maybe as less lethal launchers.

Then why do you still hand guns to everyone?
Huh??

that thing is just for killing.
Um, no. If it were, why aren't more people dying from the millions of handguns in the US?

"The biggest problems that we're facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all. And that's what I intend to reverse when I'm president of the United States." -- Sen. Barack Obama, March 31, 2008

The 1994 AWB. And you made my point. If the shooter had access to an AR-15 with .223 bullets instead of the 22LR he used, then the body count would have been much higher.
What do you have to base this on? Your opinion or some actual hard facts? If the latter, please provide for all to see.

What is NRA's and most gun enthusiasts' recommendation regarding repelling a home invader, point the gun at them and allow them to flee or shoot them?
Do yoo mean gun enthusiasts like the police? And NRA instructors who teach police? Allow them to comply with your orders or flee. In fact that is how 99% of legal owners and police end confrontations using a gun If an criminal or attacker advances after a weapon is shown, a persons would do the same thing the police do.

The point is that gun confrontations with armed legal owners that end peacefully are almost all the cases and not counted in the biased studies. You have thousand and thousands of crimes stopped by legal owners not counted n the biased anti second amendment studies

I see people are complaining about bayonet lugs and stocks. For those saying that any sort of stock would make an AR15 concealable has most likely never carried a concealed weapon, nor do they realize such basic things as momentum impact movement of the rifle while a person walks.

Does anyone REALLY believe the following guns would be all that easy to conceal?

I'm not a particularly big fan of folding stocks myself, but really don't see the harm in them. I have a stronger belief that the collapsible stock is more worthy of protection, simply due to its ability to accommodate multiple users of the same platform. But, that boils down to personal preference.

Then there is the bayonet lug. Not too many people out there are going to put a big knife on a gun, as it usually is more of a PITA than a benefit. Most people I know tend to put things like the following on their bayonet lugs:

This is due to that being a pretty awesome place to put a light, and saves premium rail space on the quad. I personally think too many people put too much crap on their rifles, to make it look "tacticool"... But certain items tend to lend themselves to being positioned on particular places on the rail. I'd personally prefer that more manufacturers just put a damned rial below the gasblock/sight.

Personally, I'm interested in keeping other people from building Utopia, because the more you believe you can create heaven on earth the more likely you are to set up guillotines in the public square to hasten the process. -- James Lileks

The folding stock looks like it's on an AK pattern rifle. AR-15's have a part of the operating mechanism that extends into the stock. You can't make the back of the gun really any shorter than the tubular portion of this stock. This is just not a concealable weapon.

and the right to own one of those is infringed anyway.

I suggest that you are the one who needs to read more. Gandhi was referring to recruitment of Indian soldiers to help the British fight World War I.

So you misquoted Mahatma Gandhi, and when I point this out using Snopes.com and MKGandhi.org, your defense is that those sites are "anti-gun"? That's pretty pathetic.

I didn't "misquote" Gandhi. The quote is accurate.

Try again.

No, you used a forum poster on snopes, citation of the Potomac Institute's opinion of what Ghandi meant by the statement. The Potomac Institute is notoriously anti gun.

And clearly, you didn't even read what that forum poster wrote.

Yes, when it comes to guns, you truly are.

In fairness, though, you don't need a gun to "accomplish" something like this. A few years ago there was a similar incident in which almost a dozen people were injured when broken candles were thrown at them from a passing car.
