Filing Amended 2010 Return
I'm getting ready to (finally) send off an amended 2010 tax return, has anybody had experience with filing amended returns and what all is required? I used the TurboTax software to generate it and it looks accurate, do I need to send in just the 1040X + required schedule, or do I need to send in the original 1040 too?
My situation is that I was part of a tuition reimbursement program with my employer, but they changed the rules of the program (long story) and ended up not reimbursing my tuition. Since I had planned on getting the money back I didn't include the ~$4000 of tuition I would have otherwise claimed. It works out to be $703 I get back on my 2010 taxes, I've been very lazy and haven't gotten around to mailing it out, then I moved so my address was wrong, etc, had to update the whole thing.
I explained the whole scenario in more detail on the 1040X, but should I also get a statement from my employer stating that they didn't reimburse me, and also include a statement showing the tuition I paid to my (then) University?
Just don't want to run into any trouble.
