Absolutely, on computer screens the fonts and icons are scaled to the pixel, so if the screen size remain the same and resolution increases, the font will decrease. On a smart phone the items are scaled to the screen size, so for example a icon on a iPhone 3GS is exactly the same size on iPhone 4's retina display, except the latter is sharper. People who always demand higher resolution on small laptops screens often overlook this fact, sure you can stick a 1080p screen on a 11.6" but you'll have to manually increase the font size so much just to be able to read anything. A small minority want higher resolution for better productivity (coding), which is a legitimate reason, but 1600x900 on a 12.5" will cause eye strain much sooner.

JUST 10 min ago finished replacing the broken screen from my x230t I got on the outlet site a few weeks ago (i5, webcam, multitouch, for 630$)

It was a refurb, not new, but thought it was a pretty good deal to replace my old x200t. It seemed like a pretty solid build quality initially, until it broke.

Within a week, screen broke, in a briefcase that had a small bump, that had both the x200t and the x230t. The 200 was fine, the 230 lcd and multitouch digitizer were smashed. No extended warranty available on refurb lenovo outlet. They wanted a THOUSAND dollar retainer, or ~600 bucks for the new screen DIY.

Credit card co wouldn't warranty because refurb.

Bought a 100$ IPS laptop panel from a 3rd party and just finished jerry rigging it together, so now I have basically a regular x230 with a swivel screen and no pen function.

If I could take it back, I would wait to snipe a new one, if only to be able to get a credit card warranty if needed.

ThinkPad screens are only durable with the old school ThinkPad clam-shell form factor (these can take quite a bit of pressure when closed) which is only on a handful of ThinkPads generally the X/T series "laptop" variants.

The tablet convertible /newer series lightweight variants that lenovo created to make ThinkPads target consumers abandoned the clam-shell for stylish bezel free streamlined designs which are about as durable physically as every other manufacturer on the market.

BTW, all you SD'ers on the fence, jump to the back of the list for some $660 i5, 6 cell, MT, 128gb ssd, refurb's X230T.

Funny since I decided to hold off overnight to think for sure on what to get, then woke up this morning deciding I wanted to grab an x230T... and a much better one (this) was available compared to the one I was eyeing last night. Big Grin

I have my Windows 8 upgrade ready for it.

Question: Does anyone know if these typically come with 1 DIMM pre-installed (4GB) or is it usually 2 (2x 2GB sticks)?
EDIT: It is supposed to be 1 DIMM preinstalled, with 1 slot open for another stick.

Actually, these are full-fledged PC's that run Windows, convert into a laptop or a tablet at will, have IPS screens, pressure sensitive stylus for work, strong enough specs to run programs like zBrush sculpting and Photoshop texture painting, even some 3d modeling. 1366x768 isn't low-res for a notebook/convertible of this size. Oh, and it was an ivy i5+hd4000+ssd+good res. Smilie

So would you even say the $900 Surface Pro will even beat out an X1 Carbon at the same or similar price? There are a couple of those around as well for around that price. New ones could be had for around $840 the other night.
