Also out of curiosity, is Costco the only retailer that is charging tax on the full amount and calling it a "manufacturer's discount?". BestBuy has the TV I would like (60" Samsung, 7100 model) for $1799 and they're charging tax on that amount, yet Costco is on the full $3149. I suppose the $50 less than BB makes up for it but why the inconsistencies?
Costco does it that way to lower their own tax liability, passing the cost onto consumers. Other retailers simply eat the cost. It has to do with the way some states calculate taxes on rebates.
