Symantec Rebates - "Your rebate request did not pass our audit process"

ryanm2890 30 January 24, 2013 at 03:46 AM
Hello all,

I recently received invalid notifications on 3 Symantec rebates (more should be coming) all giving the reason "Your rebate request did not pass our audit process". I'm assuming this is 1 product per year thing that McAfee does (or did?) but it says this nowhere in any of the fine print on any of these Symantec rebates. I've contacted parago about this and I waiting for a response but I thought I would start this thread cause I'm sure other people will be in this same boat. If anyone else has any experience with this "invalid reason" or is in this same boat with Symantec, post you experience.

The offers I'm officially having this problem with are:
13-43642
12-41409
13-43641

P.S. first post so go easy on me

The pattern is "when" you submitted the rebates. All my previous rebates I submitted before 1/20 or so was approved and some received today. After that time, my rebates were rejected. Looks like they just decided at one point to start rejecting.

Not the same in my case. I got 2 approved after 2 invalidated. Though this 2 approved starting with 12-xxxxx.

Interesting...but the 2 approved was mailed after the 2 invalidated? Sometimes they approve in random order.

Thanks Bao. This is interesting, as I've not received an official reason for the "audit" reject, but this gives us an additional data point. Other SDers have mentioned this, but it sounded like speculation.

December was a bonanza for Norton rebates (Frys / Nortons / OD) and this might explain why one of co-workers didn't get any rejects so far, whereas I got rejected on 2. The difference between him and I, was that he didn't do the OD rebates. Also, I skipped 2 of the OD AV rebates (I messed it up and returned it), so this might explain why I got rejected on 2, compared to 4 posted by others.

If you search your norton rebate history using this link

http://www.symantecrebates.com/pr...etail.html

Find the first rejected rebate, then work back 30 days and see how many rebates you submitted (I'm using the "Date Received"). Report back the number (or PM me).

Maybe there's a pattern to be found.
My rejection came for the third norton internet security/utilities/ ghost triple bundle from frys bought from black Friday through January. So like a 6 week period? Was anybody else rejected on their third or more purchase, or were people rejected on fewer than three? Weird thing is I also bought 3 norton 360's during that same time period and all of those were approved, but then again, all of those were submitted before the new year. Maybe they weren't starting the audits until the new year.

Maybe the invalid rebates created a period of zero valid rebate submissions, then when the new rebates came in, they were considered valid since you hadn't had a valid rebate in a while (because of that time period of zero valid rebate submissions). Or... Maybe they do the excessive submission audit periodically.

All of my rebates (and I've submitted lots of Norton rebates) for purchases through 11/29 have been approved/received. Didn't purchase any Norton stuff during December. If they started an audit process before the new year I certainly should have been targeted.

" Your rebate request did not pass our audit process."

13-43641 - Triple Bundle
13-43642 - Triple Bundle Upgrade

This is bullshi* !!!!!!!!!

State Attorney Generals Office in CA will hear from me for fraud and false advertising on this one.

I will NEVER do another Symantec rebate at this point.

This is the kind of stuff class action lawsuits are made of.

Is there any update. I read on McAfee thread from 2010 that many people ended up getting nothing. Is it going to be the same scenario for this disaster as well. BBB did not help much, is small claims court only option. Also how do you request chargeback. Anyone from 2010 had any luck with it.

After trying everything, I ended up getting around 25% back from Frys. The rest 75% are lost. McAfee did nothing, and like you mentioned, BBB did nothing either. I'm not sure about small claims court as I never went that route.

So this is what Norton is probably doing now. Stated now on rebate forms , "Offer not available to OEM manufacturers,
resellers, or on any products to be auctioned or resold"

So they are making the assumption without any evidence that you are violating this clause, and being judge jury and executioner, which I believe is illegal without proof, voiding your rebate if you submit more than they think you should be. Not even stating the number of rebates allowed per a period of time in the form is shady also, CSR's telling you that you qualify for every new promotion number not mentioning the clause above is deceiving. Them not even telling you why they rejected your rebate is also possibly illegal.

Therefore if you do more than on rebate a year, you might as well cross your fingers at their disclosure. This might get very interesting once the State Attorney Generals Office in California gets involved.

This is so stupid. What if I want to give it away or just install it on multiple computers? Just put the freakin' rules on how many per year or whatever and be done with it.

Can we make use of the '60 Day Money-Back Guarantee' and get our money back that way?
https://support.norton.com/sp/en/...file_en_us

Instructions to Request Refund
https://support.norton.com/sp/en/...t=us&lg=en

1. Print, complete & sign Product Return Form
2. Gather the following:
- A copy of the product key that you used to activate your product.
- A copy of the product CD.
- A copy of your original receipt on an 8 1/2 x 11-inch piece of paper.
3. Send by U.S. Postal Service or Canada Post to the following address:
Symantec Corporation
Attention: Returns Department
555 International Way
Springfield, OR 97477-1098

OR

Fax copies of the requested material to (650) 429-9009

I think this is an easier way to get our $ back rather than talking to Parago/Symantec. But of course, the way they're doing this is messed up and we should let the State Attorney Generals Office know about it.

Seems like it should work. Just fax the form, receipt, copy of the cd, copy of the key and they will send the refund. I think the they will probably blacklist the key so that it can not be used.

thinking to give it a try since they rejected my rebates for the Norton Bundle @ Frys

Did you submit a rebate for this product? [X] yes [] no
What was the value of the rebate? $50 + $25
Reason For Return: You denied my rebates.

And then they will invalidate your key and the machine you have it on now will not update.
They sold you the product and they should give you your rebate, unless they can PROVE you violated the terms of service. I'm really pissed over this.
