i LOVE this thing. Bought a refurb las year. I dread the day it ever breaks because I'm sure I will buy another one.

Just keep in mind that you have to be careful with the caraffe. Not only is it glass but has lots of circuitry inside so you have to keep water well away from the underside of it when rinsing. Don't even think about putting it in the dishwasher!

That said it's a beautifully-designed and implemented piece of equipment and it's a joy to use.

Agreed - if you break the carafe it's game over, time for a new one. Breville won't sell you just the carafe, since about 90% of the complexity (heating element, temp sensor, basket moving mechanism, etc.) is all in the carafe.

Fortunately Squaretrade does offer accidental damage protection on small appliances, if the thought of dropping your $200 teapot causes too much consternation.

Great find. In for one!

(also ended up spending another $150 in tea, tins, mugs, etc.) Those coupons certainly generate business!

Not precisely refurb, but $215-225 on returned ones at Amazon Warehouse Deals [amazon.com].

Note that the three wise camels show that this has never gone below $200 new on Amazon, either 1st or 3rd party.

Yeah the refurb was a separate listing on Amazon, here is the link for reference:

Haven't seen any refurbs on amazon for a long time, so I wouldn't count on them getting more. This is a great price for a brand new one.

$200 for a tea pot? That isn't very slickdeals.

I use an regular coffee pot, run the hot water over my tea bags in the filter area. And dilute it 50% with regular water.

Then you are definitely not the target audience for this amazing appliance. Smilie

Do you stir it with a shovel too?

Tea is a subtle thing. I kind of chuckled at the price of this thing too, as my coffee kit has a $2 glass pot and a $13 ceramic strainer from amazon.
At $200 though, P&G tea bags will do for me.

i have one of these. it is convenient, no doubt.

TBH i kind of miss the art and craft of doing all the "fancy work" (temperature, steeping time, etc.) myself in a ceramic tea pot.

Someone slap me around; I use Lipton Tea Bags!

Can anyone describe the difference beweet tea bags and brewed tea, for me, please?

I have tested the temp a number of times. It runs 10-20 degrees lower than it should. Once you know the temp variation, you can set the brewing temp manually to compensate for it. Does seem to boil water well when used as a kettle.

My best uses.

1. Pricey kettle. I like Teavana Perfect teamaker and Remi.

2. As a teamaker, when at least two people are drinking tea. Both have to like the same tea. Otherwise, the Remi is a good choice. I do like the fact that the tea basket is raised after the desired time. That means you don't ruin the tea if something interrupts you. If I had it to do over again, I would stick to a nice electric kettle.

I did take the Square Trade warranty. That thing is heavy. Expect the handle to break every time I use it.
