Every scumbag is wearing these black puffy ribbed jackets now. They were only cool if you are one of the l33t few wearing one waaaaay back. Now they are basically parkas.
Who are you, the fashion police?

The elm version actually looks the best of the bunch.

How does this compare to the Marmot Zeus? I got one of those in the SD a few weeks back and was comfy in it with nothing but a heavy shirt on under it at around 8 degrees. My wife, who was cold in 4 layers, was very jealous.

I wanted to pick one up for her but the price of the Zeus is high again now. Is this Nitrous the MH equivalent of the Zeus? I've heard some people say it's only comfy into the 20's whereas most seem to be willing to go lower than that in the Zeus.
They are comparable jackets though I suspect the Zeus is a bit warmer while the nitrous is more fitted and thinner. I choose the nitrous because it was less bulky

Going to Europe in 2 weeks, I need jacket good for 10 degree F, is nuptse 2 warm enough?
I would be comfortable with that situation in something like a Nuptse 2. Note that I don't have hands on experience with the Nuptse 2, but I do have a somewhat similar Mountain Hardwear Phantom jacket (discontinued) that has served me well through the years. I have no issues taking that down to ~25f with just a T-shirt underneath while being sedentary.

I got a moncler jacket from bloomingdales when it was on clearance last year for $180.00 and it is the best purchase I have ever made. I only wear a t-shirt underneath in nyc and was toasty warm since all the frigid weather we have been getting lately.

It's pretty darn similar - looks similar weight, fill (800) and retail price ($200). Warmth is highly subjective.

That's what I'd have thought too, but in the Zeus thread on SD people were saying they used it at zero degrees and below and were fine, whereas in this thread about the Nitrous people are saying that they wouldn't recommend it at anything below 20 or so.

Hard to tell if it's really a difference in the warmth of the jacket or just the people commenting.

Not a bad deal. Seems a tad expensive though - I got a jacket with 98% down for $56 at Burlington coat factory. It is nice looking and incredibly warm - I have been nice and toasty despite single digit Fahrenheit highs this week. So, just wanted to let you guys know that cheaper does exist, although it would take time to find.

I picked up a MH Kelvinator for $150. Thanks for the post, OP
Any idea how this stacks up? I wanted a jacket with a hood, this seems like a good deal, but not sure about sizing. Thanks

In for 1. Thanks OP, great deal on this jacket.

Also - for all of those criticizing the "style" of this jacket: It is an outerwear jacket. You quite often would wear another jacket or "shell" over this one. They compress small (you can actually fold them up into their own pocket) and are very warm, which is ideal for layering. When you're out in 0 degree weather, warmth and being comfortable is the main concern.

Also from NYC - Temps have been wicked. Me + a bunch of people I know have been staying nice and warm in North Face Nuptse 2 jackets (Reason so many of us have it is cause I gifted a bunch last year for Xmas when I snagged them around $100 each). I wear nothing other than a long sleeve shirt inside under the jacket and I'm pretty cozy.
Whered you get them for $100
