what do you mean "have zwave"? is that a service/sub? i have some zwave sockets and just got some GE ones .. gawd i hate SD. blew $500+ on stuff i didnt need & wasnt looking to get tonite. thanks BB for the 60-day premier returns.

wrong. these can work standalone. however, if you want remote access of the lock then you need the bridge and service, or other zwave controller and your own setup.

i should have cleared it up for you. if you wish to use any zwave features (like your devices) you will need a controller. be it hand held controller like the $5 ones folks are mentioning, the schlage link box, or another box like the vera2/3/lite to be the brains controlling the zwave devices. with regard to these locks, you do not need the zwave functionality unless you want to remotely control it, or activate scenes when people enter via pin code.

Nooooo, none in my area. :-( congrats to those that got in on this. I have one that I paid full price for and I like it a lot, would have been nice to really set this up though.

If you guys use a Mi Casa Verde Vera ZWave controller, instead of Schalge, there should not be any monthly fees for remote access.

Yeah, that's what I didn't like about it. I bought a bunch for all the exterior doors on my house so I could remotely unlock the door if I ever needed to, and also so I could log into my account remotely to make sure all the doors are locked. I was bummed when I found out that I couldn't actually remotely lock the door, it needs to be locked manually by someone. I returned the locks and bought the Kwikset model and I LOVE it! I've already had to use it twice to remotely let some family members into my house, and I also have it set to lock every door each night at midnight so I never need to worry about a door getting left unlocked over night ever again.

Unless it gets left ajar, even slightly. Then you're in the same boat as the Schlage users.

And while your point stands for the Schlage deadbolts, which do require manual engagement, the lever door locks will lock themselves without manually turning anything (just by design, not due to any motorized parts).

fwiw the lever handle version does lock and unlock remotely, but as you pointed out the deadbolt versions do not.

If your looking to get a Me Casa Verde.. the new Almond+ is half the price (free zwave) is a wireless router for your whole network as well... but your gonna have to wait to get it... since its a kickstarter..

Well all my doors have self closing hinges, so getting left ajar isn't a problem for my house. And I did have to make a few very slight modifications to the strike plates on the door frames so when the doors are latched closed the deadbolts can move freely without hitting the plates. It was a pretty simple install and I couldn't be happier with them (the Kwikset models).
