For most people, taxes are just data entry. What I have seen is that most people have issues when it comes to claiming their children and taking the college credit once the children become 18. Another common issue is not knowing how to figure out total tax when they have capital gains.

Things can come out a few dollars different depending on if you use the tax brackets or tax tables to figure out how much taxes you owe.

The best thing I do for people when I do their taxes is to help them with their withholding amount (a lot of people struggle with money all year because they have too much taxen out of taxes) or offering advice on how much in taxes they would save by contributing to an IRA... as well as explain the situation with their kids. Also with people going on unemployment they don't realize that they won't be getting EIC, don't want to give people heart attacks when they come in the next year.

I personally believe if someone is only charging you $50 in your situation, (I don't know how many transactions you usually have) they aren't charging enough and I would question if they know what they are doing.

just picked this up. I had my taxes done at H&R Block in person last year and had a bad experience so I am going to stick to doing it online myself. All the guy did last year was plug in the information I gave him and it took hours as he couldn't spell/type/communicate well.

Yea $50 is low. Most tax pros are usually around $100..

It's a family friend... but he's just always busy starting around the end of January and into the coming months, up until April. I'd just like to complete my own if possible. It'd also be a good learning experience as well!

EDIT: Plus, they provide free tax advice as well as audit protection with this software. Hard to NOT go with this option!

I got the H&R At Home Deluxe in the main that says it has Deluxe State and State as well as State E-File free. Guess I should go with that? I used Turbotaxt the last 2 years but H&R before that. I just went with what was on sale.... Any reason to not use this?

As long as your file from last year is on the same computer it will transfer the information for you.

How many times can it be used. I do ours, and my 3 kids returns. Will this work for me? I use TaxAct online every year.TIA

OK...I'm an idiot.
I used a link from slickdeals to find a $2 adder to get to $25.

But it's still not showing free shipping.
I have changed the shipping method from 2-day to standard, and shipping charges still come up.


Anyone find a $2 adder that makes this order qualify for free shipping ?
