Is your camera watching you ?

there have been many virus's that will not show in the task manager in the past,,... again it looks like its possible many can be infected without any notice ,, so the best answer Im seeing is "TAPE" ,... really?

the story says it cant be detected other than by a professional ?

The only way to determine it for sure would be to tear a given webcam down and reverse engineer the circuit board layout. In the vast majority of cases, the light is on if the webcam is on -- no exceptions. It is possible that the light could be controlled by software but in most cases that would be firmware not drivers.

Despite claims to the contrary, the links in this thread about the the light not turning on don't really support the claim.

There was also that school that got cought recording people, I bet that the light was not turn on there... I wonder if taking a "photo" vs video would effect the use of the light.

But here [logitech.com]is an example of people using a logitech usb cam with out the light coming on all it took was a regedit.
