I've had one of these for years and it's fantastic. It completely replaced my landline phone service - you plug one jack into your router and another into your cordless phone. I use it with Google Voice and all calls within the US and Canada are free. I believe it supports international calls too, but I haven't actually tried it - here is information about Google Voice's international rates:

I would recommend this to anyone. We have been using this for the last 1 year. We were paying Vonage 36 per month. The good thing about this is that there are no monthly fee (Google Voice) . International calls are metered mostly @ 2 cents pm. You can add 911 service by paying CallCentric $1.5 pm. I think we saved more than $200 by using OBI. Call quality through Google Voce is excellent. Also somes with all the loaded features of Google Voice. OBI customer response is awesome. No wonder why this little thing has 4.6/5 rating by 844 people at Amazon.

I'm still using my old Ooma Hub without any additional fees. I know it was more up front, but I could keep my existing number and 911 service is included. Just got an email yesterday that Ooma is going to stop supporting the old Hub and focus on the Telo. As far as this, as long as Google Voice stays free then this is a good deal. There are rumors of Google starting to charge in the near future, but it still probably wouldn't be higher than the phone company.

Transfer numbe
You can port any number including land lines but it involves some work. First I ported my landline number to a spare gophone I had lying around that I picked up for about 5 bucks. Then I ported that gopones number to google for their 10 dollar fee. Basically, if you are motivated, then it can be done. Google is your friend. |

Just an FYI for those looking for a voice over IP solution... I bought the OOMA box, maybe about 5 years ago, MAN This thing rocks!!!! It is solid!!! Yes I paid about $200 for it, but that was it! I never paid anything from then on other than my internet connection, which BTW I pay $40 a month for a dedicated 7-15meg line... best way to go I say! To heck with the darn phone company, they suck!!! Why pay for their service, I have tried many and the OOMA box does better then theirs and again cost me far less!!! ;-)

![]() You can't port the number directly to Google Voice, but you can port it to cellular provider (i.e. t-mobile, at&t, verizon) and as soon as the port happens, you can port it to GV. I just got my obi110 and couldn't be happier. I was going to go through the porting process myself, but I realized that the only people that call our old landline were kids' friends and telemarketers. It also didn't hurt that I had a GV number I got (but never used) a year ago and the number is a local number, almost matching our old one. |
