It order to use the Obi110, do I need a phone that accepts an ethernet plug? Is there a reason why this doesn't work with Skype?

Another option is to get voip.ms and a good vtech cordless phone. Is you are technical enough to install voip this is the most powerfull setup for dirt cheap.

Any regular phone will work. The obi box connects to the ethernet port and the phone connects to the obi box with regular rj11 port. I don't know about skype but obihai website has instruction on how to connect to skype.

Edit:

IGNORE THIS POST. I now see that the phone jack is "optional." Why include it? Sigh.

Dang. I got this (thanks OP!) and it arrived yesterday. Like a dumb@ss, I didn't really pay attention to something and now am not sure how to resolve. Here's my problem:

I have an old house with only 2 phone jacks. My router and modem are FAR away from those phone jacks and there's really no way to get them closer (I've tried all kinds of configurations). There is, however, a wifi extender (netgear) near one of the phone jacks. It works quite well and has an ethernet port.

Does anyone here plug their obi into an access point like that and does it work? Or does anyone know of a solution? I have a powerline unit, also, with the satellite end connected to another router. Of course, that thing is also far away from a phone jack. I've got an f-ed up house, I know.

EDIT: From Newegg, no mention of phone jack. Maybe I don't need it? Pic on manual suggested phone had to be plugged into wall and obi.

Requirements:
1. Broadband Internet Connection
2. Internet Router with Available Ethernet Port
3. Analog/Digital Corded or Cordless Phone
4. VoIP Service Provider Account Username & Password
