Perfect. Picked one up for a failing SSD in my laptop. OP is my Ace in the Hole.

How easy is it to install an SSD, physicall and software-wise?

I've never used SSD before, but I'm pretty sure my mobo can support it (asus px58d-e), but what kind of cables (data and power) does it use? Will I need to get a 3.5" mounting rails/kit?

And once I have it physically installed, when I install Win7 on it, is there anything I need to do to it before popping in the CD and installing?

Other than the physical size and some installation tweaks (ensuring ACHI for example), there is very little difference in installing an SSD from a regular drive.

Most SSDs use SATA for the data and the power connectors which many modern hard drives also use, so they should be the same as well.

You may need a mounting kit, but it also depends on your case configuration. My case didn't have it, but I know some newer cases do.

The only thing I needed to do when I installed Win7 was to make sure that I had set ACHI on my mobo and (to make it easier on myself) made sure it was the only hard drive installed at the time I installed windows. I added the additional drives on afterwards.

It is just SD causes me to want something I do not really need.
I got Crucial M4, which is a bit inferior in terms of speed, but I can "survive"

Yes.... all SSD's do since they're all 2.5".

But, some drives are 7mm thick, others are 9 mm. It makes a difference in some lappys which clouds everything.

I have a question, im replacing my current laptop hard drive with this ssd, my first ssd, do I just install it and boot to dvd rom to install my windows and thats all?
