I almost bought the regular 840, but cancelled the order.
I read some reviews and really I don't think its right for my situation. Not sure if I should get this or wait for the 128gb version to go down to ~$100. Either that or Vertex 4 128gb. I gotta buy something this week. |

Thanks for the input! And love the chart.. didn't even know Tom's hardware even had those comparisons. I'll sit on my $200 SSD upgrade for another year or so. Crucial M4 is just too damn reliable

The 840 PRO uses MLC NAND flash memory as opposed to TLC NAND. Basically MLC is the sweet spot for consumers who want performance/value/longevity in their hard drives. TLC doesn't last as long so that's why it is worth less. |

A little tech help, if some of you wouldn't mind. I'm pretty tech savvy (enough so to install this badboy myself), but can anyone clarify to me exactly what advantages I would have installing this in my 2012 15" Macbook Pro (non-retina), over my stock 500GB, so that I can decide if this is worth the $200 to me.

Finally! $200 was the breakpoint for me. Feels good that I restrained myself last week when it was lowest at $210 lol.
I wouldn't have minded getting the non-pro version if that went near $140. I'm not really worried about the TLC of the non-pro version, but the write speed which is almost half of the pro version. Anyways, I'm glad I ended up with the pro version. Last edited by hp79; 01-24-2013 at 07:06 PM.. |
