Your macbook will feel magnitudes faster. But you're going to lose a lot of usable diskspace. Boot up and loading applications will feel almost instant (do not have to wait for things to "happen").

i'm thinking about trying to get this price matched over at ncix to try to use the $20 off coupon (similar to what was performed in this thread. The main fear I think would be that newegg runs oos before a price match could be verified

I'll give you my experience ...

I have an old unibody macbook, a 2009 model. It was starting to show its age. I typically have 20-30 browser windows open, 3-4 virtual desktops with a virtual machine in VMWare running on one of them. For me, the usability of my machine had dropped so much that I was finally considering getting a new machine. I hate spending money though, so I thought it might be time to get my first SSD. I put a Crucial 128GB M4 in there and I'm very, very happy. WIth all the same load on the system, it responds so much better. I can't remember how it responded when I first got the system, but I imagine it's at least as good at that, if not better.

Now the only complaint I have is the battery life and that will be thing that pushes me to get a new laptop.

I just bought this for $215 on the 15th. Knew I should have waited. Wonder if they will do a price adjustment.

Just an FYI, this model does not come with a 3.5" caddy. Luckily I had a spare one sitting around.

OCZ agility is MLC also, MLC means nothing. This is a terrible $/GB based on prices from last fall. However, it's a top of the line drive and this is a good price for RIGHT NOW. Meh

Boot speed, app open speed, very low (close to none) heat from the hdd area, no vibrations from the hdd, no noise except the main fan if it is running, instant resume from standby. The primary boost you get is from the very low access time. Everyone would be able to tell the difference because of this. Secondary benefit is the file read/write speed. And then there's all the other extra's. You should really try a SSD. Even the non-pro samsung 840 would be very good.

not sure if trolling or serious. 5400 rpm 500 gb is the slowest drive around. This is the FASTEST drive out of ssd and hdd. Boot time will be practically zero with this with no startup apps. I have an 840 in my hack and it would take almost no time from bios to desktop if I didn't have a pass screen.

It makes everything faster. Anything that involves loading. You will not be disappointed (with the performance, tho not necessarily ROI, still too expensive for "most people"). You will definitely notice the difference, vs. RAM upgrade which some non-power useres may not notice.

Though if you're the type of person that has lots of patience, lots of time on your hands, then maybe (just maybe) the SSD is not for you.

just bought Intel 520 240GB for $169. should I return and buy this one instead?

I tend to agree. I just built my new system with $160ish 830's (RAID 0) and haven't even put it in place yet. Was tempted to "upgrade it" before even really using it. Decided to wait. Don't need this, especially right now (daughter's tuition, etc). Need to focus on savings/retirement and less of this kind of thing.

You are seriously mistakenly, the price from last fall of this drive has never been lower than 250 dollars for 256 GB. This SSD at 200 bucks is the lowest price ever, not just right now.

Also, don't compare this drive with the cheap one like Crucial M4 or Agility since they are not even in the same league. This drive blows away all other SSDs except for the OCZ Vector.
