FYI - Looked up the Asus extended warranty that is free with any of their laptops from what I can gather:
http://usa.asus.com/Notebooks/Fea..._Warranty/

Pretty nice, especially if you put it on a CC that doubles the warranty or adds an extra year. Anyone with a Discover know if that would apply to the ADP portion of the warranty?
So, do we have do anything to get the extended warranty??

Nothing that I see, looks like it is a standard "feature" of Asus.

got one, thanks OP, repped. Will put in a Samsung 830 SSD 128GB and a 64GB SD card. Should be great for traveling use.
You may have goofed there. I believe that's a 9mm drive and wont fit. Most ssds are 9mm, please not people that only a 7mm will fit this build.

quick question from a quasi-helpless mac user who bought this for my wife and is trying to optimally configure the thing - has anyone replaced the horrible track pad driver? can anyone point me in the right direction?

has anyone customized this in general, i.e. uninstalled the asus bloatware? comments on how well it affects performance? and for the love of god, can you point me in the right direction?

thanks SDNers! Cool

Unlikely. More like 5400. 7 mm thick. Hard to replace - hard to open cover.
Nah its a cake walk.

seems like a nice deal but I don't understand the fascination w/ touchscreen laptops. Am I in the minority in preferring no finger prints on any electronic devices I own?

I have a 240GB SSD that i would like to replace the original 500GB with. Anyone can suggest some free software that would allow me to do this relatively painlessly?
Make sure you have a 7mm drive, most are 9mm.

lol @ this

people and their miseducated knowledge on computer components...especially ram...
4GB is fine only if you're going to be web browsing and watching videos. If you want to do anything else, or if you just want a snappier computer, you want 8GB. Windows doesn't elave RAM empty, it uses it as cache to make everything faster. You are "miseducated".

For a machine at this price I guess I would be fine recommending it to people, but if it were $100 more then it would be completely unacceptable to me. I've been wanting to buy a nice Windows 8 hybrid but none meet all my requirements, it's usually the pathetic 4GB RAM on a $1000 computer that is lacking. I got a $750 computer in 2009 with 4GB DDR3. It's 2013, we should at least have the OPTION of having more. The computer I got in 2009 could even have more.

Yeah those will if they state 7mm. I have an m4 that's 9mm. I bought a 7mm from newegg, I will say the majority out there are 9mm.

Replace them is easy from the hardware standpoint. The hdd is right there, most likely a 5400rpm hitachi travelstar. Probably 8 screws to remove body, 4 for the drive, insert drive, put screws back. Ram is soldered though, can't upgrade it. But this thing is truly lightning fast with an ssd. As far as touch responsiveness, theres simply no hiccups, it works flawlessly. I put the build quality right up there with a zenbook. Great sleek look, this is truly a hidden gem that doesn't get much love, too bad for the haters......especially if they were looking for a w8 touch netbook, because these asus models simply aren't rivaled in price right now.
