just bought an 840 500gb. I only need it to last until they come out with 1TB SSD below 50 cents per gig. Probably have to wait 2 years at most. This drive should last 10 years with 30gigs or less of writes per day, per the articles mentioned in other posts. Unless you are a spec whore, this SSD has everything you need and you won't notice any real world difference. I would like to add that the 500gb version has almost 100MB/s better write speed than the lower capacity brethren of this model.

I put one of these in our new netbook and it's working out well so far. I went with a TigerDirect MIR for that one last month that I believe ended up at this price. I just purchased one of these, too {was too busy buying, so Discombobulated beat me to the post
}, for the PC I'm building my wife. She's got me on a strict budget and doesn't need much storage space, so this was a good match for her. We always have the HD from the netbook as a data drive if she ends up needing more space. That particular model's HD doesn't get great reliability reviews, but I get her to back up regularly and it's just the data drive. She probably won't change the contents often.

prob want to avoid the last one, it's not the Extreme version so you have a drive with less performance and track record. both the 840 and V300 are new releases so ltd data there but the mfgs have been excellent although components are new TLC in the 840 and new 19nm Toggle NAND in the V300. Artificial intelligence is never a match for natural stupidity
Most useless terms: ASAP - how bout earlier? YMMV - isn't that life? Do ___ going forward - any other way? I got x for $y on BF or last week - unless you have DeLorean with a flux capacitor Illegitimati non carborundum Wins: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5? You have been assimilated into the SD collective consciousness, resistance is futile ![]() Bulldozer Tesla = Titan [dailytech.com] |

You're assumption is correct. In most cases, you cannot add an SSD to a laptop that only had one HDD. 1)PLEASE stop posting about CA sales tax and recycling fees
2)The "no HDMI, deal killer" joke isn't funny 3)Stop comparing video cards to cars, the price ranges are completely different 4)You are NOT going to call your relative to SUE and if you are, you're wasting time 5)Why does Tigerdirect ask for your SSN? No clue, just don't give it to them 6)Black Friday deals aren't as great as people make them seem. |

Wear leveling is less effective as the drive fills up with data. As data on the drive increases, the number of write/erase cycles also increases making wear leveling less effective. The rule of thumb is to limit the data on an SSD to 80% of capacity. So the larger the SSD, the longer the lifespan. Doubling the size of the SSD will generally double the life expectancy of the solid state drive. So with this in mind, you should put no more than 96 GB of data on this drive.
