Lenovo refurbs are very good. Lenovo has 3 tiers from their outlet. From best to worst:
1) New (people cancelling their orders last minute etc)
2) Refurbs (returns, almost no cosmetic damage, "like new")
3) Scratch and dent (as the name implies. Although the scuffs are so minor most people don't even notice them unless you specifically look for them. Of course YMMV)


I bought a scratch n dent earlier (i5 3rd gen, 6gb ram for $350) so I'm hoping it gets here soon and I can evaluate better.

Gah! I've been looking to upgrade a Y560 (my first SD, $280 w/i3, 1gb switchable graphics) for a long while now; reading every post in this price range with discrete graphics... But I want an upgraded display! 1366 has been my resolution for 2 years now, and I just can't stand it any more!

delivered today, pretty dang fast shipping. everything looks to be in order, loaded up with the normal bloatware, otherwise should be fine. remember to update your drivers!

I got mine on Monday.. It's slower than crap with that 5400 RPM HD with all of that bloatware..

Issue#2 Wireless - N unfunctional
I couldn't get wireless N to work at all. I had 2 wireless N networks in range and it could only see the wireless G ones.. I even tried to manually make the network and it still would not connect. It works fine, but only wireless G. The card properties show Wireless N and I updated the drivers.. No use. My phone and desktop wireless N see both G/N networks and connect to either just fine.

Issue#1 - continued...
I stuck in a Samsung 256GB SSD SataII drive and now the machine flies! 10X faster I'd say easy!

Issue#3 - RAM
It comes with 2 sticks of RAM
1x 4GB PC1280
1x 2GB PC1280
I had an 8GB Stick of PC1333

Keep in mind this is the 630M laptop as well as it is brand new. I love Lenovo Outlets. Tip, just go on Lenovo outlets around 9 - 10 AM, or generally in the morning. There was only 1 left of this sucker so there are still Z580's probably going around on sale.

Also one thing I don't know is how I got it for 417 base price, while everyone got it for a little more. Not complaining, just weird.

It's a discontinued model. They're just trying to clear out any inventory they find I think.

If anyone is still interested there are 11 in stock the last time I checked.

In a different Lenovo, it came with a draft N Broadcom wireless card. It could only use the 2.4 band and had only 1 stream. Max throughput was 72mbps since it could not use the 40MHz channel...

The one I have has the Centrino W - N 500 or whatever.. It's the normal Wireless N card that most have.. When it's connected, on status is showing Wireless G 54Mbps.. ):

Why does it not show specs when I click on it... Makes me weary....;(
