I upgraded from Quicken 2010 and I have to agree this newest version was a few steps backward from previous versions.

Graphically alone, it's ugly and some of the input changes I didn't like.

I'm a long time user of Quicken but got sick of being held hostage every three years, and am now on Quicken 2008, refuse to "upgrade". Seriously considering Gnucash or AceMoneyLite as a free alternative.

so as to not lead people down a dead end, neither Gnucash and AceMoney offer the ability to download transactions directly from your financial institution. The fact that Quicken appears to be the only software install that does this would explain how they are able to operate under the "we disable our own software every three years" business model.

I've experimented with personalcapital.com as an online alternative, but that obviously is going to raise concerns about storing your account passwords with their site.

For those who missed out on this deal, Costco will discount Quicken Deluxe by $20 starting Jan 31 through Feb 24, dropping B&M price to $24.99 and online price to $29.99.

I hate Quicken but there are few alternatives out there any better, wish MS had not canceled MS Money, it was way better in every way. BTW, you can get MS Money for free now but it is no longer supported and you need to download your financial data to it from each institutions web site, you can not download directly from the PC as before. Still it does work for many basic needs.
