Bottom line, these deals are mostly PR campaigns more than anything else. The police and local politicians get to put a bunch of guns on a table and talk about how they're doing something about gun crime. The press gets something they can write about and some eye-catching pics of a pile of guns. The average suburban Joe and Mary see it on the 6:00 news and say great job keeping all of those evil guns off of the street. The reality is that an insignificantly small number would ever end up there anyway. |

So much for your 'only working guns' buyback, but keep dreaming of all the good these do. That's all they're about. Feeling good, pats on the back, and photo ops.
In this case where the buy backs are bailing from is the ocean, not from inside the boat, so you might as well not even. |

Why are neo-cons afraid of gun buybacks?
They don't hurt you at all. They serve a need. People have weapons in their homes that they no longer want and that they are more comfortable having destroyed rather than in circulation. It's their choice. Nobody is forcing them. Nothing can stop you now...
The problem is they are not advertising this as "200 guns were cleaned out of attics". Gun buy backs are always a political "we have taken xxx guns -off- -the- -streets-". They even pile weapons on the tables they did not collect in the buy back. Even worse is here's $200 for your late husband's $1200 rifle. People offering those individuals closer to the gun's value are chased away by police. I will always stand against organizations taking advantage of people's ignorance. But just how much lying should we put up with? |
Nobody is lying. The people who participate in the buybacks are well aware of the options and they CHOOSE to have the unwanted firearms destroyed by the police rather than have them remain in circulation. It's their choice. |
You're wrong. There are plenty of people out there who simply are not comfortable selling their firearms when there are no background checks in place... or they simply prefer to have them destroyed and out of circulation. You can spin it any way you want, but you're incorrect. |

just look at the best picture they could come up with.. ![]() I see a whole pile of rusty crappy riles. I can only imagine what pieces of crap these are.. This was already mentioned, but the people selling these are obviously doing so because the gun isn't worth the amount of the GC. If it makes people sleep better at night to buy broken guns though.. so be it. bitter Pennsylvanian clinging to my guns and religion.. Obama called it out in 08.
